I think most fans will agree that officialy Judgement Day is Aug 29, 1997.

Seems that you're a little late to the party.  :devil

That's one director who could not make up his mind.
"Now, if I had to make the choice of one fighter aircraft above all the others...it would be, without any doubt, the world's greatest propeller driven flying machine - the magnificent and immortal Spitfire."

According to what I read Skynet become aware was pushed back from the later date due to the out come of T2.

a result of temporal interference by Sarah Connor, her son John, Miles Dyson, and the T-800 destroying Cyberdyne headquarters and all backups of the research in 1995, the date for Judgment Day is moved back to here. Skynet is destined to go online a few days earlier on April 19, 2011, at 20:11.

Spot on with the temporal explanation, Jebus. :aok

Though I still dig S.C.'s fire when she enlightens the psych doctor in T2. (Before the destruction of Cyberdyne)

Dr. Silberman: I'm sure it feels very real to you.

Sarah Connor: On August 29th, 1997, it's gonna feel pretty ******* real to you too.

Anybody not wearing 2 million sunblock is gonna have a real bad day.

Get it?
