Had a good look at my NetGear Router today, checked the Firmware was up to date (it was), Did a Factory reset, played around with lots of the settings. Nothing I can find seems to make a difference, I still get a lot of errors/packet loss using "ICMP Using Windows DLL (default)" in PingPlotter.  :bhead

The reason I've stuck with this router is it has a usb connection to my printer and I can print from any pc on my network. But I removed it and installed the D-Link DIR-615 Router, Virgin Media gave me when they upgrade the modem. Presto problem fixed  :) (can't use my printer though  :frown: ).

those are still 30mins apart ...
Just for you, these where both done at the same time.  :D

Laptop (WinXP) using "ICMP Using Windows DLL (default)" and the D-Link DIR-615 Router

Desktop (Win7) using "ICMP Using Windows DLL (default)" and the D-Link DIR-615 Router

Sid if I were you I'd try disabling every so called optimization from Win7 tcp/ip settings. Disable remote differential compression from add/remove programs / windows features and remove everything but ipv4 from tcp/ip (unless you need to connect microsoft networking in which case you need to leave that also). Some network drivers have udp offloading feature and that can cause your packets to malfunction in win7. It's supposed to offload the traffic from operating system but it seems it doesn't work properly always.

Thanks MrRiplEy, Still got the same problem with UDP on the Windows 7 after changing the Router.
Will have at a look through your suggestions when I can, but run out of time for now, going away for the break tomorrow.

I take it back whatever I said about VM.

Logged a call yesterday afternoon was down for 7 hours.  They say it was after all a problem in my area and the guy was up a pole on Good Friday at 8am fixing it.   Got in from work and the DA is lag free for the first time in 2 weeks.

Ping plot looks the same as when it was dodgy but no lag.

Sounds good, keep us posted.  :aok

much better, the plots now look the same which eliminates the box/OS :aok

must be a duff router then. is it in a well ventilated spot? Ive seen a couple of domestic netgear routers which ran very hot and eventually bricked ...

By it's self on a shelf, so fairly well ventilated, certainly warm to the touch, but I wouldn’t have called it hot.

Just as a side thought: for privacy reasons it's usually a good idea to blur your ip address. Someone can use it for very unpleasant purposes if they hold a grudge.
