Bless you Mr Dicho, but it's up to you to put it together and get it cooked.

My daughter is a super-smartie...graduated from a tough university Magna Cume Laude...she says that cooking is "alchemy".  I have to show her how to make beef gravy

All cooking is in reality is gathering ingredients and then following directions...nothing more.

It's fun too.

Liquor may be quicker but a good cook keeps em coming back.  :devil

that's what i;m saying.

they don't look as flashy as dominos or pizza slut. they don't wear cool/groovy uniforms.

but they generally make the best pizza out of any of em. and they generally charge less, while giving you more food too.

If you're in the Phoenix, AZ, area look for Nello's. Try their sausage pizza. They make their own Italian sausage inhouse.  :old:

Things were going good again until you mentioned the horrible abomination above
See Rule 19- Do not place sausage on pizza.

I used to  work on the  road  alot and once stopped at a gas station in  east Bumble Cluck Georgia  it was owned by a  korean couple, I was  hungry and  noticed  a deli. The lady I just had  paid for  gas n smokes  came  and asked if I was  hungry. I agreed to a roast beef sandwich..it  eneded up being by far the best I've had. Nothing you cant make yourself(she  used pretty much all grocery store bought stuff" but  she piled it on high and  told  me " You  big man for you large  portions" You actually get this  treatment from mom and  pop places alot. not that they try harder(they do ) but they are usually there because they LIKE WHAT THEY do. I got  a chinese place round the corner they  dont  accept tips from me  anymore and  they  get to me in 20 mins or less everytime and  add a lil extra. Owner of that place actually turned out to be the delivery guy I've been tipping well for  accepting a order  5 mins before close  and dropping it off on the way home.

One of the McDs down here in Alabama that I went to occasionally tried that call center thing. Between the connection not working half the time and the Yankees in Missouri not understanding Sweet Tea orders they ended up "poop canning" that call center thing. Not to mention how many times they screwed up an order because their numbers didn't match the local numbers some times and the Yankees couldn't understand southern kings English over a drive up window mic.

When the bean-counters figured out a way to show a marginal increase in profit with a 'slight' loss in quality and customer service.  It's all the rage these days.

That's why we get paid! hehe Well except I'm out of work because we lost customers. ugh!

Pizza Hut had already all but lost about the time Dominos put in effort and imporved their product only a year or two ago.  Now they're scraping bottom I figure.

It really is all about the mom-n-pop places you find.  If for nothing more than better than a scowling employee that doesn't want to be there nevermind make you a meal you're gonna actual enjoy or want to consume.  It floors me how much food I can get from this little place near my office for ~$7 (and how relatively quiet they are whenever I stop in compared to all the other buisness and hustle and bustle along Santa Monica Blvd.), beef terryaki rice bowl and a vegetable tempura made fresh, yum yum, and in less than 10-minutes and handed to you with a smile, and a very happy and healthly-fed tip-jar on the counter.

In the eatery biz it's all about great food and customer service--50-50.

No eatery can survive on only new customers.  It's all about repeat business.

In the casino biz of course we had our "whales" (totally repeat biz high rollers) as well as mid-range players.  I comp'ed the living kraap for those people every month with direct-mail as well as dinner comps and special free buffets and VIP parties.  While a restaraunt can't do that they CAN have a quality product in every item on the menu.  The secret of customer service is making EVERY customer feel like you are invited to eat at their house.  I used to encourage/challenge employees to learn ONE regular customer's name a day.  Just one, and treat them like family.  It worked.  Total handle went from $4.4M a year to $166M a year in less than three years.  Oh, and the Rueben went from "skinny" to "Geeeeeeez, how in the world can I finish that?"  Chef Johnston designed the best Rueben on the planet.  It was 3" from top to bottom and corned beef was in no way spared, freshly sliced swiss and extra 1000 Island Dressing on the side.  I wish I had one right now.   :(

If you go to a Taco Bell and live within the greater-metropolitan Los Angeles area... you are now officialy gringo, mentaly challenged, or a poorly experienced tourist.  Good burritos are not mostly beans and rice, those are added to it like salsa for flavor.  My favorite hole-in-the-wall burrito place is actualy a stone's throw from the Van Nuys Airport runway's southern-most end.  They don't speak english, but for as much as a lunch combo from Taco Bell you get a burrito that's mostly meat, with a generous amounts of parsley, onion and salsa (you want to waste your money on lots of beans and rice in your burrito like a gringo, you're gonna have to learn how to ask them to do it for you in spanish, sorry :D ).  There are also a few clubs in downtown and hollywood that are a stones throw from a late-night mexican food place and they usually stay open for a huge buisness rush starting at 1:30am until the crowds die down as people trickle home around 2:30/3.  My favorite mexican food place is closer to where I live and they have more normal hours, not only is it fantastic food and all the fresh chips and salsa you can eat, but just try and beat always-$10 pitchers of beer here in SoCal.

Calling someone from Missouri a "yankee" shows you are completely ignorant of both your geography and history.  Not to mention can get your butt whipped in most parts of the state.
