The automatic transmission is really bad....cannot downshift going up hills so an M3 does 10mph when I used to do 35...cannot shift into neutral to coast down hills and I hate the keypad steering....there should be the options for either manual or automatic tranny and stick controls.....i do not tank anymore. :joystick:

The lack of neutral warp speed downhill coasting is perhaps a bit more realistic?

I agree the 900 mph down hill runs were very gamey, I'm glad thats gone. I've only climbed one hill and the automatic tranny did fine, of course I was in a panzer and haven't messed with any others. Setting the "ASWD" keys to a hat on my throttle worked great as well as the "stop" key to stop and shut down quick.

I'll also agree that the mach speed downhill slalom runs were gamey, I'm glad they are gone.

That said, I also agree that HTC needs to address the automatic transmission.  It needs a little work, the performance is pretty annoying on the big hills.  I have faith that Hitech will adjust how it works on big hills eventually.

Other then that one quibble, I really like the new GV system.  I used to hate tanking, but it has been a lot of fun since the update.

so the big hills in the game aren't  gamey ? No transmission ever built would hold a 40 ton tank going down a 45 degree slope !  But then there are no roads to the top of the big hills either!
Some compromises have to be made for the gv game that dint apply to the aircraft in this game, steep hills and iron rooted bushes that can take a tank out are pretty gamey but those of us that enjoy the gv game deal with it every day!
I did not know you couldn't drive a tank without a joystick before this last update?
That's what it sounds like, but the ability to make slight course corrections with one are very important to me, I
frequently climb the hills, it is an art getting a tiger up on a ridge I fell may have been lost without analog steering
control. I am glad it will be added back.

Sorry I can't seem to get the quote right from my phone
I play for the gv game. And because of friends I have made while on here, without gv's I would probably quit.
I don't play WOT because it is no where near what AH had to offer. iMO!!

I'd like to see a film of an M-3 going 35 up the same hill it only will do 10 now.

An M-3 downhill will still do about 90.

I hear the price of gas will be $6 a gallon next week. I miss last year when it was $1.50

The only thing that will be added is an analog control input to steer. You will be able to use either keys or rudder/stick to turn with. We are not going back to the old system. We will also be adding some display in the commanders position such as speed and gear.

TY Sir! Without reading the rest of the likely drivel inn this thread, I believe that one item will address 90% of the dissatisfaction with the new system

I never cease to be amazed with Aces High...

As you know, I play Aces High for a long time but mainly in aircrafts. Once in a while I like to take a GV but I'm really a noob at it. I have always enjoyed them, even knowing about some of it's shortcomings, never complained. No time to learn new tricks, I pay the price...

I was curious about this new sistem. I was a bit afraid of it, I must admit. But, behold, I found it easier for me! In everyway but using the reticles... I prefer this sistem, all I have to do is learn how to use the gunsights. I'll offer many kills to many better GV'ers, for sure.

But now, I really feel I am a tank commander. I can see around, I can turn the turret, I always know where I am looking, I can even fire a round if I have to. And when I need to shoot, I just go down and turn gunner.

The turning seems more realistic to me and the turn on a point ability is great!

All in all, I like this and will be tanking a little bit more, I'm sure! Good news to those looking for perk points, lol!

Cheers,

Does anyone have specifications for our games vehicals? The grades they could climb and descend, and what speeds were possible under those conditions? Some of the geographic features on our maps are not places in the real world WW2 tanks ever fought battles on.

You think maybe our maps geo features and spawn points up to till now were created in mind of the super speed, climbing, and descending abilities of our cartoon gun toteing Ferraris? Could any WW2 medium or heavy tank drive up or down the sides of the kinds of 45-60 degree walled canyons we have on many of our maps? How many tank battles in WW2 took place on the sides of the peaks in the alps or had heavy tanks driving down the sides of canyons like the Grand Canyon?

Love the new commander/system and adding the foot pedals for steering will make it more fun and intuitive.

Any chance the throttle could be added as an acceleration control? Set the middle of the slider range as "Do nothing" same as not activating a button now. Forward throttle starts accelerating. Slow for a little forward throttle, max acceleration for full throttle. Move the throttle back to mid point and vehicle maintains speed. Slide throttle back past midpoint and it decelerates, slowly at first, rapidly if throttle is all the way back [closed throttle].

The throttle is so intuitive, and it frees up two hat switches for other functions.

Thanks for your consideration.  :salute
