WW1, TrackIR, and this last patch
« on: April 30, 2011, 11:33:38 PM »
Well, I'm at a loss. I gave it a shot, but I really don't think it is possible to use track IR with the WW1 planes with the last patch taking the mouse pointer aim "cheat" away.

I simply have no idea where the hell my bullets are going to go, unless I turn track IR off. Kinda ruins it, for me at least.

WW2 you've at least got reflector sights, so if you can see the gunsight you know where your bullets are going to go. No such luck with the WW1 birds... if you have track IR you are SOL.

So my options seem to be

1. Get out a marker and put a dot on my $300 monitor.
2. Put a piece of tape on my $300 monitor, and put a dot on that.
3. Keep the clipboard open all the time.
4. Go back to playing without track IR.

Was it really that big a deal? Can we at least have the option to turn the mouse pointer on?

Can't you set a button to lock your view to a predetermined viewpoint?  The way the KP8 key can be used as a second forward view?

I don't think it's that hard to kill someone....if you're close enough to be effective, you shouldn't need it...

They didn't have a floating mouse pointer or icons and they managed very well. Learn where to put your head

Ye, you can do this. By turning track IR off. At that point you can use your hat, just like people without track IR. Of course, it renders having track IR pointless, but that's life I guess.

The sortie I flew last night, I actually broke my prop off on a guys tail and I still couldn't hit him with the guns. I'm guessing you don't have track IR, or if you do you have never played in the WW1 arena.

The gun sight doesn't work like a reflector gun sight in the LW arena. The camel doesn't even have a front post to use with the ring sight. If your "head position" is anywhere other than the default head position, you aren't going to hit a  damn thing no matter how close you are.

1. Get out a marker and put a dot on my $300 monitor.

use dry or wet-erase.. no harm, wipes right off no problem.

I have a bit of deadzone on my TIR profile so my head has a little 'globe' where the head is centered and doesn't move if I move my head half an inch or so in any direction.  Plenty of room to go back to center and do gunnery.

I've been using the marker-dot since 1999  in the game, too late to stop now.

But I do agree with Urchin, it souldn't be that big of a deal to change this for the trackIR people affected.

I use TIR.  I don't use the mouse cursor or a dot or any of those tricks and hit plenty (WWI and WWII).  Take off the training wheels...it'll be much more gratifying after you've learned how to aim and shoot without the "helpers".

In TrackIR set a center button on your joystick and hit it before you fire.  You can also use tracer bullets, adjust your aim by watching the tracers, and then use rudder to adjust and hit your target that is the way WWII pilots did it.  I always have my map open it's not that big a deal if you want to use your curser.  I have been struggling with trackIR in WWI but I have found that the center button helps me. Good luck I hope it helps.

Thats exactly what I do (center track IR with a button on your joystick and keep your head still or increase the dead band in your track IR settings
). Same for IL2, A20, D3A1...except for bomber gunners positions where I just use the hat switch.

Same, my headset has a dead zone 5 degrees each side of center (10 degree arc's total).
