My brothers browsing habits...
« on: May 03, 2011, 04:16:47 PM »
are horendus(sp) to give it a compliment. Hes 19, and about as good with a computer as a new guy to the game is on his first flight.

He had issues with his computer the other day, I ran a scan with malwarebytes in safe mode, found 3 items. I removed them. Was good for a couple days then yesterday he had the same issue. Ran another scan in safe mode again and found 3 more items. removed them. I know Skuzzy has some strict Regs on what his computer allows to pass through. Wondering how to set up something similar to what the Skuzzinator has, but not nearly as strict.

if you need a DxDIAG let me know, I'll see if i can get a screenie and post it.  :salute

Unfortunately since he's got horrible browsing habits then there's not much you're going to be able to do to block things.  You can teach him how to use it properly, or you might consider a linux alternative.

Dude, no... it's easier than that.

Just go into the browser settings and disable active X, set things to NOT auto download (why the frak MSIE ever decided that was a good default setting, --- no telling WHAT they smoked that day), and go in and set the browser itself to not allow certain things.

That will greatly minimize the problems he is having without requiring a massive reformat, reinstall of a new OS, and teaching a non-tech-savvy person how to use a new foreign OS.

It's the easier way to go.

very simple...reload your brothers system with ubuntu or any linux...and don't give him root access...setup the firewall on it.

he can browse the retardnet all day and you won't have to worry about the stupid things he does...

Got a router? Set it up with a DNS lookup to OpenDNS service. http://www.opendns.com/
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

Set up a proxy so he can only view the sites you allow him to view.

Well maybe you don't let him use yours. Password protect your login. Tell him to quit screwing up his own, or learn how to maintain it himself.

Might actually make him take the lesson to heart, if he knows he doesn't have yours as backup.
