vech icons
« on: May 05, 2011, 12:33:57 AM »
Like to see that vech icons do not show up to enemy air craft that have any type of heavy ords on board. such has rockets and bombs. once the ords is gone. the icons show back up. its way to easy for one guy to have a turkey shoot with gvs.2nd wish along same grounds is  gv flack guns  too aircrafgt icons be set at 500 yards to level out the playing field.

Just like with aircraft in reality it is much easier to spot cars (tanks in this case) than on a computer screen, that is why we need the icons.

If you've been in a plane in real life and look at the traffic, you can easily tell big differences between the cars. Try doing that in the game from only 1.5k without icons. You can't tell the difference alot of the time, especially with Ost/Wirb/PanzerIV because they are all the same chassis, but you would be able to in real life. Icons are needed.

Agreed, but it would be more accurate if GVs that are stopped, engine off, and hidden weren't so easily seen, such as a tank hiding under trees. NO WAY you spot that GV from 1.5 away in real life. Many many many accounts from guys who have flown right over dozens of camo'd tanks and other vehicles in helicopters only a few hundred feet up, and never saw 'em.

T34 rolling full throttle across an open field? Yeh, that sticks out like a sore thumb. Icon 1.5K away, if not further.

Same tank inside a building or under trees, stopped, engine off? Why the icon?

I see an opportunity for compromise.  Small icon for stopped GV.  Once the GV is moving, the icon grows with the GV's speed; the faster it's moving, the bigger the icon - up to your normal icon size you've set in your preferences.

GVs are quite easy to see without icons, the vehicle stands out quite well agaist the terrain.

Turn off you icons and see for yourself.

Removing icons would bennefit the GV fighting +1

GV icons do not impact the fight overhead at all  :aok

Add some sort of colored marker rocket for GVs and planes so as these can be used to mark an enemy position for Jabo I.D.  the color could be country specific!

Icons by themselves aren't the problem (particularly at only 1.5k), I think the range indicators are the issue.

If I was in charge (scary thought), this is what I would do;

1. Leave enemy tank icons for GV type at 1.5k.

2. Remove the range indicators for all enemy GVs, this will also prevent the base guns from having an easier time popping tanks. It will also make egging them a little harder, particularly at minimum altitudes.

3. Remove the icon from any tank with any kind of foliage/hill concealment.

4. If historically accurate, add small wisps of smoke at the end of main gun barrels after firing.

For many recreational game players opposed to the small cadre of this games "Serious no Lifers".

You would be consigning them to a second class game citizen status of being able to almost see any GV through thier monitor maybe at 100yds in the brush. They would never understand the difference between the "Digital Vibrance", "Contrast", and "Gamma" sliders. Either in their LCD monitor's menu, video card menu, or even in the game's graphics menu.

Best Buy $199 LCD 21"specials just don't have the pixel resolution and vibrance to help you separate the iron from the brush without that icon. Even my LG L227 is an either or monitor. I can adjust it to have great grey scale gradient resolution and not burn my eyes reading on the internet or I can have great color and vibrance resolution and this game look great. But not both. And under $300 LCD's for general home/Internet use come set inbetween.

Thats quite a bit of unintended consiquence to not consider. Or, if you have a high end system and work at home as a graphics professional, I doubt it would do anything but make you more effective in the brush.

Would be intersting if the game had a wall in the sunlight where you can adjust your color resolution, crispness and gray scale for the game. I'm finding what looks sharp, bright and colorful on my desktop is a bit too gamma and contrast low in the game.

I never said GVs are invisible without icons, they can be spotted but it's a lot harder to do it on a computer screen.

Really? I've heard this before. A camoflaged tank in trees and grass and terrain was easier to spot in real life, with haze, cloudy weather, non-optimal Lighting, and dirty wind screens?

These theoretical resolution discussions have some merit on planes at long distances, but I've seen no good proof tanks are so much harder to spot in game that an icon is needed to find them.

I think this argument is overplaid.  :salute

Tanks, or cars, don't look like this      .       from 3000 feet IRL.

Real life has more pixels per inch.

They don't look like that in game either. 3000 ft is 1000 yards. At a thousand yards, a Tank looks like a Tank. In fact at Icon ranges of 2500, which I think is Icon range for planes to GVs, You can still see them. Getting rid of the Icon means a plane would have to look and search, just like real life.  Getting rid of GV Icons would be a gameplay improvement in my opinion.  :salute
