New GV controls
« on: May 07, 2011, 04:12:58 PM »
While i think the GV update is a step in the right direction, and i do appreciate all the work that has gone into it, i feel there is room for a few tweaks.

1. new commanders position: this position should have a range finder so you can dial up range for gunners position. (at the moment you cant see anything in panzer turret until your on top of the enemy) At the moment the position is just same as machine gun pos.
2. let us drive the things, give us back the gears. We can do it, we've been doing it for years.
3. Trees: let us crush them instead of flipping us over.. why do they stop a 40 tonne tank and not a 250 lb bomb.
4. The no zoom in some gunner positions is gonna make hanger queens of some tanks.. this is a game and some gaminess can be tolerated and I think equal view for all is a must.

hope i don't sound whiny, just want the game to be a thrill for me..

1.  Gunning should be a little bit of an art and take practice.
2.  The new automatic transmission is better and gives more fine control of your speed.
3.  Bushes and hedges, yes.  Trees, no.
4.  See point 1; and a little more realism is fine.  If someone doesn't have the patience to use the equipment to its strengths, then so be it.

Sorry, but you sound a little whiny.  ;)

Automatic range finders? How about some dedicated GV pro work their butt off to create sight picture profiles with each tank targeting each tank at varying ranges so I don't have to.  :D

I agree with Dot.

I agree ImADot.

Addendum.

1.  Gunning should be a little bit of an art and take practice.  Ditto
2.  The new automatic transmission is better and gives more fine control of your speed. Mess with the W and D key. There is a gear indicator now. Put it in whatever gear you like.
3.  Bushes and hedges, yes.  Trees, no. Bushes and hedges stopped the Allied tanks in Normandy. I'm pretty sure it's not SOP to drive over trees IRL either. Thrown track anyone?
4.  See point 1; and a little more realism is fine.  If someone doesn't have the patience to use the equipment to its strengths, then so be it. There is no zoom because there was no zoom in the actual tanks that don't zoom. Drive a Tiger.

Sorry, but you sound a little whiny.  ;)

The new, realistic, historical, tank sights rock.

Just dial in the range.  :devil

Depends on the size of the trees and hedge grows.

Maybe change some of the thicknesses of the hedge lines equivalent to two current lines of hedges thick No. Thinner ones yes

Same thing with trees. Trees with thick trunks, No. Trees with thin trunks yes

Pic 1. Little tree. Stopped a Sherman.  :rofl
Pic 2. I see a plow.
Pic 3. Stuarts driving like we should all try to drive, between the trees.

New control is working great for me and I've been having a wonderful time with the new sights.  Have gotten many kills in each tank including 4 in an M3 the other night I managed to land  :rock

No real change needed other than some rudder control for the PT boat. :)

Now that I can drive with the stick again I like the new changes just fine. The no zoom on most tank is wrong they do have zoom it is just a fixed zoom and the magnification is historically correct. Now a 2 perk tank can't shoot 3200 yards and kills a 50 perk tank. It makes the perk points for a Tiger or a Panther worth the cost.

I never used my perk points and have about 10.000 because I didn't need to use them. I would just up a M4/76 and kill Tigers with no problem. Now that is not so easy. The only problem is a bug in the game that gives  you a ditch sitting on pavement. I lost more pecks since the new patch this way than I have in the last year getting killed.
