Actually wouldn't mind seeing something like this.  Currently if you don't survive the attack (which is most of the time) you're stuck in the tower waiting to see if you hit or miss, if you spawn to the runway again the active ordnance will disappear (at least that's my understanding which could be wrong).  A torpedo cam or some sort of notification if the torpedo missed the target (or hit) would be nice because it would let you know when you can up again.

I saw warbest once a month or tw ago, up something like 10 planes with torpedoes trying to sink a cv.  he got shot down by ack every time, so he got upset and switched sides and started calling out his "welcome to-the-I-couldnt-sink-the-cv-so-I-switch-to-get-easy-kills kill club".  I sank the cv a few minutes later while he was boasting of all his "awesome" kills.

i tried using torps one night...multiple planes...even pt boats...bombs are more effective, even dive bombing has a higher survival rate.

camera on a torpedo wouldn't do anything but add eye candy...not really useful

At least enable some sort of  torp view in the film viewer. Difficult to get better at it with no feedback.  I'm like 1 for 100 with torps in the TBM :(

But that one time was so sweet.

I do love a good torpedo attack, only run a couple month usually but I do enjoy them as a good change of pace and I like the challenge compared to level or dive bombing which is far easier to score a hit with.  Torpedo's do cause double their weight in damage, one will sink a DD or CA, two will take down the CV.

If you're looking for practice I would try setting up some time with a trainer who can manipulate the CV paths in the TA and put one in position for you to practice on.  Ack can also be turned down so you can watch where the torpedo is going.  Rolex has an excellent article over at the trainers website on aerial torpedo attacks.

i love torp runs as well and do them when ever a cv close by my hit rate is 10-30% but in all my runs and hits ive only seen 1 boom the rest are read in the scrolly bar (seeing 1 boom in 400 runs makes it not very fun and i wish i filmed it cuz if i did i'd never torp again lol) :cry i want the torp cam to be only really only for eye candy...i love eye candy, the other kind needs a dentist and i hate those sadistic SOB's

I gotta say I think this "torp cam" idea is awesome. Perhaps a way of impementing it without
causing on overload of coding might be to treat the torpedo as a "drone", similar to
the two "drones" in a formation. Once your bomber or the whole formation was shot down,
you'd default into the torpedo....and once they torp had missed or gone by the fleet,
one could just bail on it or hit .ef to end the sortie....
Hell, I'd do a TON of torpedo runs just to get the torp-cam view .

Did 99.9% of all SBD, TBM, Val, Stuka, Beau, ect. anti-shipping pilots die on their first sortie, or is CV ack overmodled?  :noid
The Kanonenvogel had 6 rounds per pod, this is not even close to being open for debate.

For most of WW2 AA shells had a time fuse which was set just prior to firing. If the gunnery officer miscalculated the range or speed of the target the shell would either explode short or long. Sometimes a shell might pass within inches of the plane before exploding later out of range.

In late 1944 the US introduced proximity fuses which allowed each shell to explode whenever it passed close to an aircraft. When these fuses were used against Kamikazes by the USN they made their 5 inch AA guns seven times more effective than before.

Our manned CV 5 inch guns use proximity fuses. It is deadly against torpedo attacks as the gunner does not even have to lead the target. If AH somehow used timed AA fuses, as was the case for most of WW2, torpedo attacks might have more of a chance, providing some sort of realistic fuse setting lag was incorporated. I can't see it ever happening however.

IIRC in the RAF torpedo squadrons in the Med had the lowest crew survival chances of any branch of the service.

I'd like to see a torp cam too.
