Time Warner was terrible as well.  Techs that don't know their job, horrible scheduling, expensive service...  The best cable co. I've dealt with was Cox Communications.  They always went above and beyond expectations.

On a side note, there's no cable available in the area I live in now, so we use a WISP for internet....  A contractor is in the process of laying down new fiber optic lines in my area, and is going to be leasing said lines to Quest.  I guess we'll see if Quest is any good.

I think part of that problem is that ISPs bank on 98% of their customers knowing barely enough to turn on their computers, let alone knowing enough to actually know the ISP "techs" know nothing.

This is why I have a written 'speech' I give to tech support on the rare occasions that I call them. It basically tells them to skip all the beginner stuff and go straight to the extremely advanced and yes, my pc is plugged in, ive rebooted, reset everything etc etc etc.

They usually pause for a few sec......... "Ok, so is your computer plugged into the wall?"        "sir?"      "sir?"            "hello?"

Ha they wanted $15000 from us. Compaq will never be anywhere near what Roadrunner was here.

As much as I like Comcast, I'll agree with that.

We had Roadrunner for ages before comcast bought out Timewarner in our area... comcast isnt near as good as roadrunner.

I used to use Cox Communications, but suddenlink bought them out in my area. (Although I hear Cox still operates in some areas of Oklahoma etc)

I used to to be an HSD tech for charter when I was in college and I will say that there is a reason they ask all those stupid questions.  If i had more space I could tell you some stories that would make your head explode and they often started with "Your Fing service blows, I've already checked the easy stuff...a quick check of the diagnostic screens would show that they had in fact missed something easy.  I was usually able to resolve a call in less than a minute.  Very seldom was there an issue that was within our control.

Having said that, I would agree that not all HSD techs are any good at it.

To add to it, what a lot of people don't realize is that in many, if not most cities, the cable provider is actually just leasing the lines. The city owns them.  To make matters worse some cities will even dictate the channel lineup.  Most of the time it isn't an issue but we would often have situations where a region would have a normal channel line up, but smack dab in the middle would be some town that, for some stupid reason, would insist on changes.  Customers would complain that they didn't have access to the same programming that the next town over had and there was nothing we could do about it.

I know that it's popular to demonize the cable providers, and I have no doubt that it's sometimes deserved, I have seen it first hand.  I also know from experience that a vast majority of HSD customers are totally clueless but don't know it yet.
