I hate em to.  We have had our modem replaced over 15 times in 4 years.  And all we ever have is problems, then they blame it on us or our router....lol

It amazes me that people who do the same thing everyday don't know what they are doing

I think part of that problem is that ISPs bank on 98% of their customers knowing barely enough to turn on their computers, let alone knowing enough to actually know the ISP "techs" know nothing.

I once was having problems with my Charter DVR.  This was back when it was new tech and you could only watch/record two shows at a time.  I had a splitter installed so I could turn the TV to another analog cable channel in case I didn't want to watch either of the two shows that were recording (my ex-wife liked to record a whole bunch of stupid junk).

Anyway, we were having issues with pixelated pictures and intermittent loss of signal in the evening hours (7-9pm).  While self-troubleshooting the issue, the first thing I did was to remove that splitter, just to make sure.  When that didn't fix it I put it back in.  A tech came out to fix the problem while I was at work, immediately saw the splitter and blindly ASSUMED that was the issue.  He removed it and called it a day.  I came home from work and found out the problem was not in fact fixed.  My ex-wife told me he was there maybe five minutes, and never even bothered to hook up any testing equipment.  A few days later they sent out another tech who really knew what he was doing and he took the time to run some tests and told me the splitter could NOT have been the problem and ended up correcting things by running a new main from the house to the pole.

The funny thing is that I found out later that that first tech had later been arrested after a customer had complained about missing some underwear from her dresser and a search of his company van revealed about two dozen pairs of panties laying around.  Pretty crazy stuff!

And even funnier is the fact that my ex-wife actually WORKED FOR CHARTER at the time!  She actually got the splitter that I was using from an installer, and was the same thing the installers would use!  Anyway, that second tech actually gave me his cell phone problem to use if I ever had a problem later on, and it only took them two days to come out and bury the new main!  Funny thing is, I never had a problem after that!

On a semi-related note the vice president of Enterprise Rent-A-Car once moved to the St. Louis area and built an 8 million dollar house.  A company contracted by Charter (called Sparks Communications) came out to install the cable and drilled through the wall right into the circuit breaker on the other side, burning the entire house down.  THANK GOD the family hadn't fully moved in yet as no one was inside the building when it happened, but most of the furnishings and some personal property had already been moved in!  I'm sure that ended up being a huge mess!

My point is.. it's not just Comcast.. they all pretty much suck.  The good news is that there are almost always options these days.  For TV you can go DISH or DirecTV for cable, and for internet there may be DSL options available to you.  Also cell phone internet keeps improving.  Luckily Aces High still works well enough with a dial-up connection.

Quoted for truth. My cable company (Suddenlink) is hit and miss. Some times they send a complete idiot tech guy out, others they send one that knows what he's doing. Thing that irritates me though, is they send Tech A out, he says "well, your signal is weak so I put an amp on your line." Problem seems to be fixed for a week or so, and then they send Tech B out, "Well, your signal is too high, so I put a return pad on your line."

Do they not keep notes on record so that Tech B, doesn't contradict Tech A?! Grr. But, I haven't had a single problem since I moved into the city. I know from personally experience if you live out in the country or a location where the drop line from the pole to your house is long, it causes all kinds of problems. Plus, the neighborhood in I'm in now seems like everyone uses Dish or DirectTV.
When the tech guy came out here to run lines to my new house, I noticed the big splitter thing they use on the poles. There looked to be at least ten hookups to run to different houses, and only three (including me) are even being used.

We had modem problems with them too at first. Guy that installed our service put in a modem that didn't come out of a box or bag (I suspected it was used) and it worked OK for a day or two. Called for service, same guy came out, wiggled some connections, checked outside--it worked for another day or two. Called again---same guy comes out. Must be his area or something. He does some of the same crap he did before, this time it worked for a couple of weeks then started dropping out intermittently. I called again and set up an appt on a weekend and got a different guy. He acted like he had a clue. Brought in a new in the box modem, set it up and it's been on ever since. That's been about a year.

FWIW it seems the phone company had the same issue if you can call it that with their techs. These companies seem to have a small army of drones that go through the motions looking for what they've been "trained" to look for and then a small handful of guys that actually have a clue and can troubleshoot a problem. After the drones waste several hours of your life they'll finally send one of the clued guys out to actually fix your problem.

Been my experience with this sort of crap since forever.

Really hate dealing with comcast, but luckily I have not had as many issues since the state college is literally right out my front door. So, comcast can't afford to screw around as much.

That sucks but on a brighter note, their internet rocks. I have a 15mb/s and often get faster speeds, depending on server of course.
