Ship and Shore Gun Sight
« on: May 13, 2011, 03:56:02 AM »
There is a what I believe is a bug in the way the gunsight works for Ship Guns and Shore Battery.
A few people have found that you can end up with a forward view that is different to the direction the gun is pointing. The thread below records some of the observations.

Need to use F8 to get everything lined up right.

That does not fix the bug and is not that easy to do anyway without playing around with zoom in etc! - Move any view key after F8 and you are messed up again!

An Example of the bug is shown in the pictures below. Picture "4" shows that I have moved the gun 5 degrees in direct mode before coming back to land mode, and the sights are now 5 degrees apart. - Worse still the gun view is the moving out of the picture so sometimes your Land view will not even be looking at the target! I fired the gun in the last view to demostrate where it was aiming. All pictures are zoomed in for clearer view of the sights

Edit: I added another picture "5" to show if you elevate the gun in direct mode it is even worse when you go back to Land mode as you no longer have the horizon in the middle of the view and have to zoom out to see the Horizon. I appreciate the view reticule is not slaved to the direction the gun is pointing, but the view going from Direct to another mode changes anyway, so initially, it should when going to Land or Sea mode be slaved to the gun bearing on the horizon. Fix it so pressing W or E realigns the view

Do you have mouse control completely disabled? It is what controls your cross hair/mil indicator.

yeah my mouse disabled.. so there is no way to re-align it without either turning on mouse look  or exiting and re-entering the gun position.

same problem here with mouse disabled. If I enable mouse with a little work I can almost get the yellow gauge lined up with the main cross. Surely this is not the way it's supposed to work?

Nice one Hitech.

I like the fact I can still pan my look around with the view reticule using F8 and my view keys and then F1 the view back to centre again.

It's a near perfect fix (very close) far better than before and for mouse disabled users - completely useable.

I have found that I can by panning the view and switching between direct and land modes, mess the look and gun bearings up. I have even managed to get the yellow reticule bit, barrel ring thing and view reticle on three different bearings at the same time with the gun actually firing in the direction of the ring. But only if I find it becomes an issue in normal game use I will detail a new report.

The ability to use F1 to realign the sights and views in any mode is really useful, thanks.

Unfortunately it is still broke doing the same thing.

Edit maybe the F1 will fix all the misalignment on the guns.

I still think it would be helpful if some knowledgeable person posted a primer on how to use the guns in their different modes. For instance how to use the sight reticule and the little yellow what-ever-it-is.

Thats odd, I thought it was generally working OK when I tested it against my bug report, although I could still on occassions manage to mess it up a little.

I hope you realise the big cross reticle is not for aiming ? It is to help get range and measure lead. You aim the gun using the yellow bit. The shell fall will depend on if you are moving on ship or stationery on land. So when using the old notes, it is the yellow bit now instead of the little red cross.

F1 will realign where you are looking (the big reticle) , with where you are aming (the yellow bit) , i.e. all straight ahead

The problem before was if you moved your gun in Direct mode and switched to Sea or Land mode, your view would not be aligned with where the gun was aiming and the aim (yellow bit) might not even be in your view. When you switch to Land or Sea mode you want to be looking initially where the gun is aiming. In most cases, I find that now it does, and if not, hitting F1 sorts it out.

Do you have mouse enabled ? - I don't.

(The following excludes direct mode which you can use whenever!)
On land in the shore battery, I think you may need to use land mode only. Sea mode does not behave in the same way anymore (may be a bug).
On ships you can use either depending on what you are shooting at and your style of operation!

The old guide is here: http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/bigguns/bigguns.htm

I still think it would be helpful if some knowledgeable person posted a primer on how to use the guns in their different modes. For instance how to use the sight reticule and the little yellow what-ever-it-is.

I agree but think we need to make sure the bugs are fully ironed out first. Also I have posted a "wish" to have the reticles added in direct mode because I think the way the mouse now works it would make a big difference. If it is easy to add and supported then your primer would need another rewrite. For the present you should be able to get on with the  old one. (Hint  - ignore your big black reticule when reading the old guide, it has no direct effect on your aim unless aligned with the yellow bit, and then only in respect of bearing not range.)

Ahh thanks.... I am in 8 inchers very seldom.

After that information I may have to adjust my margarita intake up a bit when looking to ship gun. :)
