Question to the Aces High Community!
« on: May 13, 2011, 07:27:07 AM »
the AVA development group is having a discussion on the manual bomb site in the AVA. We would like some input from the Aces High community.

Which bomb site do you like?
Manual Bombsite-- the hard one in the AVA or FSO
Automatic Bombsite-- Main arena's IE Late War, Midwar, etc.

Are you  ( More Likely\Less Likely) to go into the AVA Because of the Manual Bombsite. If it doesn't matter, please let us know that too.

Which bomb site do you like? - Manual. Score be dammed, I would even use it in the MA if i had a choice.  :rock

Are you  ( More Likely\Less Likely) to go into the AVA Because of the Manual Bombsite.  Doesn't make a difference to me, I don't fly AvA no matter which bombsight is being available

I like the manual one like it was in AH1. when it actually took some skill to bomb, instead of now you just hold a button for 3 sec and then thats it. i liked having to setup on the target, put your crosshairs on the target, click on the target to get the alt, hold the crosshairs steady and all that. thats what made bombing fun and thats what seperated the skilled from the average little kid.

There is, but you have no choice which one you use. It's an arena setting.

I started a thread about this in the wishlist a while back.. It would be nice to have Manual Calibration available in the M.A.s

I would think that the same reason the precision bombsight was eliminated in the main arenas would apply in the AvA arena. My understanding is that it was eliminated so calibration accuracy was not dependent on the accuracy of the individual player's controller.

I always thought that lag played a big part in the accuracy in the old style bomb site as well. We all know that lag will show a displacement of how we see things on our FE, as apposed to where they are on the server (see the 4 million collision threads). When my lag was crappy I would miss a lot, when it wasn't bad I was dead on.

I thought the old method of dropping bombs was way easier.Just let them go a split second before the cross hairs were near target, and boom the target was hit.Now with all this calibration, air speed.it is far more difficult, but it comes close to being historically accurate. The old saying put it in a pickle barrel was a laugher! The Brits had it right, area bombing.Have a "Skeeter" mark the target, and then let her fly with as many fire bombs as you could."Bomber" Harris and  reap the whirlwind was the way to go.The Americans used one aircraft to get the target set up,and all the planes in that formation dropped when the lead plane gave the word. Now days they can truly put one right through a window.

indeed. the times we've used it in special events that I can remember, it's amazing how many people cannot read the simple instructions though..

btw I prefer the manual version. it can actually be quicker to get calibrated than the auto mode if you have a steady hand.
