This isn't a wish, but more of a question.  Will AH2 ever feature modding?  It seems that with such a solid base engine, modding would be the next logical step in getting the community engaged.  However, would it also increase the number of hackers in the game?

i wonder if penguin is looking at an expedient way to introduce things that we are waiting on htc to add...allowing players with some coding and modeling savvy to add/submit stuff for inclusion.

sorry penguin but i have to agree with twintail and the others...no friggin way...it would lead down paths that would spoil some things we all like about ah.

Modding bad. Very bad.

Many (most) players appreciate the realism of the birds that HTC strives for.

Ok yes, it's a game and NOT a flight sim but it's pretty darn close.

-2 to modding
No, no, no. That molecule is caffeine.

Who says that modding detracts from realism?  Look at TwinTail's example, Project Reality has turned Battlefield 2 and Arma 2 into quite realistic shooters.  Who says the same can't be done for AH2?

Just to be clear, I am not advising that these mods would come into play in the online version- that is HTC's domain.

Are you talking about field mods or mods to the game's displays (such as clipboard)?

Mods to the game itself, such as the clipboard.  These would be offline or LAN only.

There is no "LAN" play. only AH2 Subscriber Arena's. Any modifications to scenery or objects must be presented and accepted and added to the game by HTC. Including skins.

This isn't a wish, but more of a question.  Will AH2 ever feature modding?  It seems that with such a solid base engine, modding would be the next logical step in getting the community engaged.  However, would it also increase the number of hackers in the game?

This game does not need to be modded, the gameplay is perfect the way it is. As mystery said it is as close to a flight Sim as you can get without the fun and playability taken out. The ability to mod the game will just make things more "gamey" and arcade like. Also if HTC is not in control the threat of noobs hacking it would become real once again. This is why the free arena's were taken down because people misused them. They will never be brought back as free arena's again.

If you are looking for offline play that's great. Theres a mission editor you can download and play all you like FOR FREE by yourself offline.

- 20 to Modding. This is a horrible Idea.

-100.   different mods require different versions, different versions would require different servers, because (as far as i've seen in il2 1946) you can't play version 4.09 on the same server as 4.10.  at least that is how i've interpreted it.

More servers would also take away from the lacking servers that already exsist. This past week there were 200 people on in the evening between the 2 MA's?

only in one case i would agree on the modding.
i know that Aces high thinks its update thinking on those with low end computers, i would agree on modding only with the graphics improvment for those with a better pc who want action with better graphics, would be the players option to play on the modded arena or aswell in the regular arenas with regular graphics. here is an example of what i mean
IL2 sturmovik 1946, how it usally looks like:

Modded:

we could call it high resoluiton arena  :D

Opening up to mods could likely cause this sim to be stolen, placed on the net for free, and played largely by griefers, hackers, and bug exploiters.

I gladly pay here to support and enjoy a sim that is not hacked apart and policed to keep the bad elements out.

I'm cool the modding that is available now.
