wasn't the explosive used in the german aerial torpedoes more potent than the tnt that was used in the u.s. aerial torpedoes?

*edit* i guess it depends on which model of torpedo is being used in ah...mark13 mod (?) for the u.s. and f5b 1600 or 1800 lbs (?) for germany...type 91 mod (?) for the japanese.

o it is true sir...but  tbm carries one torp while the hot n sexy manifistation of a goddess called the PBY carries 2 torps. capable of delivering 8000lb damage. and no other torp plane can do that kinda damage. it may be slower then others but its dual MADE IN THE USA torps make up for it in spades.

Problem solved! Get that one and you'll have no need for AH.

how did the damage go from 4000 to 8000 lbs damage with the same plane and same payload?  :headscratch: you should study more...

ok ill im only going to explain this once

1 U.S. torp is 2000lb...ok

torps do 2x damage

hence 1 U.S. torp does 4000 damage

2000 x 2 = 4000
ok if your still with me this is going to blow your mind

the PBY can carry 2 U.S. torp

2 U.S. torps can do 8000 damage
that is 4000 damage + 4000 damage = 8000 damage and one cv sunk
 u should work on reading comprehension and some simple math...j/k

And a PBY dropped torps at a carrier fleet when?

Find a good reason for a slow cumbersome patrol plane in AH and I'm all for the PBY.  Until then, I'm hard pressed to see the point.

The night of June 3, 1942 during the Battle of Midway.  Four amphibious PBYs were dispatched to attack was what thought to be the main fleet made up of cruisers, destroyers, transports and at least one aircraft carrier.  The lead PBY dropped his torpedoes on what the pilot thought to be an aircraft carrier but actually turned out to be the large transport ship Akebono Maru, which was hit but not sunk.

Devestators, B17s, and SBDs later came. B17s did nothing to the enemy fleet.

my reading comprehension is fine...the error was attributing bangsbox's comments to you.   :neener:

neither did pby's in the grand scheme of things...damage to a single tanker that continued with the rest of the transport fleet...meh

you know why the pby's did a majority of their attacks at night right? they were too slow to risk in daylight.

Too bad we don't have a statistical reliability model for those torps, for the early-war us torps were ker-rap and frequently did not detonate.
