Lost drones
« on: May 19, 2011, 04:35:49 PM »
I was browsing the internet while waiting on a formation of B-29s to climb out and when I reopened AH I heard both of my drones explode. I have been doing this for about 4 years now and have never had my drones blow up when coming back to the game.

Is this a new bug or has browsing while on climb out finally caught up to me?

Dunno...do you fly with throttle slammed wide open all the time?  Maybe your drones cannot keep up anymore.

...and we haven't had the B29 for 4 years...   ;)

If you lag your drones will pop.

I would suspect that your game was trying to "catch up" when you alt + tab-ed back in and your drones were not updated quickly enough.

It's sort of like the same thing as when your drones get too far away.

Your drones blew up long before you tabbed back in.

What you saw is much like hearing "base under attack" triple loud as 4 or 5 of those audio events are played back at the same time.....which is when you tab back in.

I've seem similar things with ships blowing up as I tab back in that were actually blown up earlier while the program was minimized.

Thanks for the precise report this is an old bug. Will be fixed for next patch.

What was happening  was the order of testing.

step 1 update and move your plane.
step 2 measure distance to drone and explode if needed.
step 3 update and move the drones.

Hence any very long frame , I.E. like when you come back from an Alt tab. Could make your plane to fly over 1k yards in 1 frame and hence the drone would explode before they were moved on the same frame.

It shows up more frequently with the 29 simply because it flies faster.

Just out of curiosity, how are you going to implement the fix?  Are you going to reverse steps 2 and 3, or are you going to put in a time limit before they blow up (such as require 30 frames to pass before they explode or something similar?)
