Not true, you probably have unrealistic expectations of what she ought to do/be. First of all, if you want one who doesn't care what others think of her, go look in the art room after school (next year), there you will find all manner of creepy and shy girls who don't care what others think of them. It's where I got my start, but when I realized that they were screwed up (i.e. abuse, alcoholic parents, neglect), I ran for it. Remember, real girls aren't perfect, perfect girls aren't real.
One big note, a little bit of confidence goes a long way, if you're not confident, she'll feel quite uncomfortable and nervous. Oh, and a mantra for life: who dares, wins.
