Sorry champ, your sauce is weak.
But my bait apparently was strong.
I live on an island in the Mississippi. My grandfather worked on the river his whole life, my stepdad worked for the same company for a good while, and my uncle still does doing diving and consulting. Have other members of the extended family who make a living on or around the river in Iowa. In the summer on any nice weekend you're likely to find me floating down the river drinking margaritas and working on a nice sunburn. On average I fish the Miss and her tributaries 70 to 80 times a year. We have all sorts of problems from VHS to AIS like Zebra Mussels, Eurasian Milfoil, Rusty Crayfish, and on and on and on. The river provides my community and others up and down it with both commerce and recreation. Granted I am up stream a ways from the confluence with the Illinois but at the current rate of spread of around 50 miles a year it's only a matter of time, and no one is laughing about it.
That said I would buy "those kids making light of the Asian Carp" a beer at the Boat Club anytime. What are they supposed to do sell their boat and go cry in the corner? They get to have some fun and promote their business, and they aren't the only ones doing it, there are other outfits that offer bowfishing charters for Silvers. Their video is spreading awareness of the problem, and they are out there collecting scalps. It's certainly not going to solve the problem, but it helps. More so than pouting about it at least.
I lump Carp in with terrorists and feral hogs. You know that there's no way you can ever kill them all but that doesn't mean you can't try to control the problem, and take some pleasure in the elimination of those that you can.
