well since we have a "greatest guitar player ever" thread, i thought that maybe we could see who is the greatest bassist of all time.

Another vote for James Jamerson.

If you ever get the chance, rent "standing in the shadows of MoTown" to see just how good jamerson was.

That said, Jaco Pastorius was a monster and Pino Palladino does an amazing job on the studio version of "give blood" by Pete Townsend.

Of course, this 1 minute clip shows buckethed knows his way around a bass pretty well.
