LOL....this started as a thread where someone noticed the A6M3 had a typo in the flight model that caused it to become uber fast at super high altitudes to the tune of maintaining 460 mph at 42,499 feet with drop tank and 100% fuel.
I would guess the error was either in the 2nd speed of the supercharger or drag because climb and speed greatly increased while climbing through 21k feet with E6B opened.
The original poster realized there would be a short window of opportunity to harness this for a few days worth of fun before someone else found it out and quickly edited out all reference to said uberness.
The fact that it wasn't common knowledge only hours after the flawed FM was posted in a patch is a complete mystery and even more so that it still took weeks after I announced the details on channel 200 before anyone else noticed it.
I guess they thought it was something along the lines of someone announcing "alt/f4 gives you unlimited ammo!!" and didn't have the curiousity to check themselves.
I discovered it day 1 because I fly every plane up as high as it can go on first flying it but didn't fly it much until recently as the other A6M weaknesses such as lack of armor and the shedding of control surfaces at high speeds negates much of the advantage of the FM error because the type of plane most often found over 30k feet is usually a bomber piloted by a very experienced aces high pilot who welcomes any zero pilot dumb enough to embrace the warmth of his 50 caliber guns.
At normal aces high altitudes, it is still a very sweet plane after it was fixed yesterday.
It was good for 163 hunting though most ended with dying to ack after chasing the 163 who had run to city/HQ/base ack or by my augering in after losing control surfaces in the aforementioned chase but I found many 163s that simply alt/f4 or augered in far enough away that I did not receive kill credit.
More than a few times, it was vs 3x me163 at 42k feet so I only could press an attack if one strayed too far from the others or two ran out of fuel because I made sure to drag them away from any potential bases for landing during the maneuvering.
A couple of the smarter ones upped p47 or ta152 and the high altitude advantage was mostly negated by thier wise plane choice.
It was fun while it lasted and tasting the me163 blood has ensured that I will continue to hunt them in planes like the c202, a6m5, and anything else thought to be unsuitable for the task.
