There was an hour long show on the History channel a few years ago entitled "Thunderbolts Conquest of the Reich".  It was a documentary which had the entire footage of the combat documentary which this short came from as well as interviews with a few surviving pilots.  I have it on tape but have been looking for a DVD of it for a couple years now.

Now that is slick!  I'm a huge Jug fan (the aircraft so keep your brains out of the gutter) and really enjoyed that film.

Here is a challenge for someone, especially those of you out there with the talent to take AH films and turn them into awesome videos (Lepape you're one of the folks i'm thinking of).  Take this film and re-make it using AH.  Obviously some of the later portions of pilots and crewmen can't be done but it seems like the other footage could be done.  It could be a neat tribute to the real life heroes that flew these birds.

If anyone seriously decides to give this a shot (I know I don't have the artistic talent, patience, or editing skills) please let me know.  I will be the first to volunteer to fly for the camera!

Maybe with a whole lot of chutes walking around  :lol
For this video to be possible, a LOT of teamwork, skill, and help from the community would be needed to get film footage as is necessary to closely ressemble this video. Also a LOT of free time and preparation on my part would be needed which is not much available right now. We will see...
Jug Movie 1 - Hunt or Prey
Jug Movie 2 - The Jug's Tail

This is one of my favorites~ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ny_Qb8v7drQ

Great music, well cued to the action, lots of the same footage and more.

Here is another tribute video I discovered recently with some footage of Pacific P-47 ace Neel Kearby, actual guncam footage from his 7 kill sortie and a great Fiery Ginger (his Jug) taxi and flyby segment. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTuTgUPpZtg

Enjoy

One jug had a molded fuselage come up high behind the canopy...? Not the single flat blade of aircraft metal, but a raised portion starting back by the tail & terminating with the glass.  :headscratch:

All jugs did from the early P-47B, C, and D1-D23 production blocks and are referred to as razorbacks. The bubble canopy version only started in late 1944 with the D25-D40 blocks and that feature was carried on into the M and N models. I think thats what you are referring to.

does anyone else think world war 2 footage seems better in black&white?

idk what it is, but for me seeing it in black&white grips me more than in color.
