know why stuff like this happens? because they know there will be no consequences. know how they know this? because of bleeding hearts that think it must be someone elses fault that she shot her father.  :bhead :bhead :furious

...and freedom and justice for all. Does that phrase mean anything to you?

Absolutely. That very phrase is the backbone of my stance on this.

I don't consider myself any sort of patriot, but this goes against the very rationale of our country.

The first part of that sentence disturbs me immensely. Why so many people get squeamish when somebody tries to call them a patriot nowadays is a serious problem, in my opinion.

I know such a severe punishment for a 15 year old goes against the current rationale of our country, I am saying that the rationale is wrong. I am sure before she attacked her father with a deadly weapon she weighed the consequences, because by the age of 15 you have reached a level of maturity that gives you the ability to think for yourself and consider things in the long-term. And I have no doubt that the very reason she pressed her attack was because she concluded she was owed extra protection under the law, because she's just a girl. The matter only gets worse when she attempts to deny him the ability to seek medical aid, indicating that she showed no remorse for her actions.

How is killing this man's daughter justice for him?  Are you guys ignoring the fact that it's his kid?

It sounds to me like your position is based more on your emotions. The only way the man can have any justice is if his daughter suffers grave consequences. She's the one who fired the arrow, if she gets off scott-free there is no justice, and he has received no protection under the law.

I got that phrase from the pledge of allegiance, forgive me for not citing it properly.  How am I naive?  When faced with death, all alternatives are preferable.

aside from you using the wrong words...that pledge has nothing to do with a person's rights...it's not based on anything really legal. you really seriously should study american constitutional and judicial history better..."justice for all" was taken out of the equation in the latter half of the 20th century with the words "interpretation and fees"...don't be so naive and pay attention.

lol, Liberty and Justice for all. D'oh! I didn't even think about that when I replied to him. Nonetheless, the phrase (while not actually being binding law) in part reflects the principle of equality that the country holds so dear. Not a Constitutional attorney myself, but I would have cited the 14th Amendment instead (but that still wouldn't support his position).

Did you guys not notice the elipsis at the start of that quote?

This is an ellipsis: ...

It means that the quote is not presented in its entirety.  I used a partial quote to emphasise my point about justice for all.  If you guys want to debate, let's do it via PMs.

The problem wasn't that you didn't write the Pledge of Allegiance in its entirety, the problem was that you botched the words.

It's "Liberty and Justice for all."
Not "Freedom and Justice for all."

Good point, it doesn't even seem like a punishment to some inmates.

If I were sent to prison I'd consider being kept in close quarters with murderers and gangsters a bigger punishment than not being allowed to live with civilization.
