GV map - even practicable?
« on: May 30, 2011, 07:20:48 AM »
Been dying alot in GVs the past week or 2 - first time in like, forever.    :noid

My wish would be to have a more detailed (zoom in/out) clipboard map, like we have for planes, and it can only be used while in a gv as a toggable feature(?)

It would have a 3 mile radius (5k yards) at max zoom out, all the way down to, say 500 yds with your gv being the (moving) focal point.

It would basically be a local "terrain" map, allowing us to better plan our routes and find ambush spots. It wouldn't have to be uber-detailed as I can imagine the size of the map might be big (perhaps too big?) Basic lines representing significant forrests, hills and ridges/crests and rivers, would be enough. Having supply line roads and towns would be bonus.

I'm sure it's doable, but probably not practiable to implement? I just feel gv's need better map-capabilities, perhaps even in a grid format for the future implementation of SPG or towed artillary, along with FAC planes/gvs/mini-me's.

Perhaps only limit the actual "mapping" to when in X range of a spawn or base (with a wide swath of the lemming trail between them?)

One day, perhaps.   :aok

Surrounded by suck and underwhelmed with mediocrity.
I'm always right, it just takes some poepl longer to come to that realization than others.

Nah.  Not needed.  We already have too many luxuries in the game as it is.  There were no SAT images available back then, the locals relied on questionable maps and binoculars.

shane, the same can be accomplished by using just a little more initiative. study your surroundings, study the GV tactics, learn your enemy's predictable movements. All of this in itself will give you more advantage over the enemy forces without telling their most intelligent and commanding GV guy to do the same...

Have you ever seen an actual topographical map with elevation lines and terrain on them?

I imagine it depended on availability and scale.
