Marking Enemy Tanks

Think about it a tank commander could easily have said over his radio "enemy tank at _____ direction heading ______"

So I imply that in the gun reticule you have an extra type of "round" where if  you line the reticule up and click "fire" on an enemy tank a small flag appears over their turret . Within a minute or 2 the flag disappears. Maybe the amount of marks you get per sortie is limited maybe not.

thought that's what voice comms was for?  :headscratch:

don't remember seeing references to "flag rounds" ...have to recheck the ordnance manuals for that...  :D

There was a movie once where the oddball of a tank commander fired paint rounds to scare enemy tanks.  Does anyone know that movie???   ;)  Maybe that is what the OP wants????

Regardless, I vote NO.  They didnt have anything but a radio back then.  No SAT images, not night vision, no laser range finders, just some blokes watermelon chatting on radios.   :D

I intended this more to compensate for the fact that the average tank had 3 people looking outside, driver gunner and commander. With only one set of eyes per tank  in game and limited zoom this could help with target acquisition.  Also tank commanders had more reference points then we do, yea we have trees and buildings but they all look alike.

in "battle mode" the tank was buttoned up tight...driver had limited fov through a small portal without magnification positioned in the hull in front of him, just enough to navigate...gunner would be looking through the gunsight at the same area as the tank commander.

here's the tricky part...think about this...if you can't see a tank sized object, how would a little flag help you spot it any better? unless of course your talking about a neon flag much bigger than the tank...but then wouldn't that be seriously mario world gamey?

Well for instance if your in a "smaller " tank like the M8 and you have eyes on a target like a tiger you cant really hope to do much from more them fifty feet. So you inform your fellow tankers " im marking a tiger _____ distance from you".
 The flag is just a small red flag that sticks out above the treeline. ( if the tank is moving the flag doesnt move though)

The field of view is very small for the all the crew members.  Very small.  The TC is really the only one with his head on a swivel, via open hatch, cupola views, or periscope thingy.  :)

you really want something like this, only bigger when people are asking for more realistic things?



it would still have to be very large and neon like an icon...and if it doesn't move with the vehicle, what good would it do? i'm playing devil's advocate here...  :devil  ...if you're with other tankers, it comes down to understanding the tools you have at your disposal, vox, map and tank commanders view with magnified view...say you do spot an enemy vehicle hidden and you want to direct others in your area to it...a quick look around to check relative positions of the friendlies to the enemy vehicle and direction the friendly vehicles are facing compared to you and call it out to each friendly you want to involve using relative positions and ranges.

I understand your point and it is a valid one but i just want to add a bit more of a "team" aspect to it where some people are driving around finding the enemy targets that are slowing you up and having a few people on a hill taking them out.

So I see both sides and you bring up many valid points.
