CTRL -I showing only 743MB verses my 1024 MB videocard
« on: June 02, 2011, 11:16:27 AM »
Skuzzy or any Great PC Gurus,

I have a new XFX 6870 1 gig GDDR5 video card...... in game with CTRL I toggled, my video card is only showing up as 743 MB available, instead of it's actual 1024 MB ( or 1 Gig  of GDDR5 video Ram )

I have run a DXDIAG report in both 32 bit & 64 bit mode, and it also is showing the same 743 meg video avail

but when I check my system with CPU-Z  and also with GPU-Z, it is reporting the true amount of 1024 megabytes of GDDR5

why is Aces High and also my DXDIAG reporting that I am missing 281 Mb's of video ram?

what else can I do to make sure I am not having any problems with my videocard...... the different reports / system checks are conflicting........ is there another PC / Video Utility that I might try to possibly help me find the true answer

I experience no problems at all in game, and my 27" widescreen monitor is pegged at its recommended 1920 x 1080 @ 60 Hz  screen resolution... that is with every thing turned on/checked in advance graphics and using the hires package 1024 textures ( and 2048 textures where the game offers it )......... I am using the 2048 textures ( or shadows? ?? )  in the drop down box on the advance graphics tab in game

on the main login screen under the graphics tab, I have my anti aliasing set in the middle and vsync is set to Vsync On

the field of view is set to be automatic, and is showing it at 106 <--- is this correct for my monitor to get the best view??? or is there a better recommended manual setting
I have not done any tweaking or trimming of processes on this PC as of yet.. it is a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit with SP1 ....... nothing is overclocked ( CPU / System Ram / Video Card )

any help would be greatly appreciated regarding the in game & DXDIAG reporting 743 MB of Video Ram on the card, but CPU-Z & GPU-Z showing 1024 MB of Video Ram

If I remember correctly the video mem reported in the CTRL I display is inaccurate with windows Vista and 7 and should be disregarded.  It simply reports what Direct X is reporting, and Microsoft changed how those numbers are calculated once Vista came out.

Simply put, don't worry about it.

The dedicated RAM is showing correctly in DXDIAG.  The "display RAM" is what is off.  Apparently NVidia is using the rest of the RAM for other things.
