a submarine wish
« on: June 04, 2011, 10:59:29 PM »
i just got to thinkin we need submarines.im pretty sure some people could agree with me.

but how would they work?

simple, they would be launchable from ports and CV's ONLY.

they would have the same loadout as a U-baot,US,or Japanese sub.
this means torpedo's,fuel,and deck guns.

how would they work?

pretty easy, there will be 1-2 submarines usable in a fleet.
the submarine would cost vehicle perks ALONG WITH..get this.a rank in ship gunnery.if your gun ship or field rank is high enough, you will be able to control the submarine.

i think that would be a fair way of who can control it and when.

at ports the submarine would only cost vehicle perks.

U-boats would be used with the TG that only has 1 cv and 1 cruiser.not the full fleet.
Japanese subs we be used on full fleet TGs.this means cruiser,cv,and destroyers.
US subs would be used at all ports, with and w/o airfield.

in order to reach full range of the sub,you would have to surface to refresh air and look around, this means the submarine can only be submerged for a limited amount of time.
how to sink it?
when it comes up to the surface, bombs, rockets, and guns can be used to sink it.

is there anything i left out?voice your opinions please

go do a fly-by over the ports, you'll see 2 submarines there (u-boats from the looks of them)

kind of a "hint hint" from hitech.

I don't see a lot of ways that a Submarine is going to get into firing position vs a CV group 30 knots.

There would have to be all kinds of merchant convoys running around for subs to be worth having.

I like the idea of having some merchant supply ships escorted by Corvettes and other small escort ships.  I'm not sure how HTC would tie them in to the strategic part of the game though.

I know a large part of my grandfather's bombing missions were vs Japanese merchant shipping.  His flight would run checkerboard patterns over known shipping lanes.

Perhaps HTC could add in there merchant fleets just for added targets like adding back in the old strategic factories back in just for some more cannon fodder.

Is the arena even open for that long?

HiTech already said that he was planning on adding submarines to AH.

I don't see a lot of ways that a Submarine is going to get into firing position vs a CV group 30 knots.

You have to have enough room to get out of vis range surface run ahead of it then submerge and engage.
but you need a large area to get ahead of one. by itself there is not much chance but if its slowed by escorts.... :t

Merchant ships would be a great addtive to FSO/Senarieo events.

or maybe have submarine spawns from the port going out to a close area where merchant ships are crossing.then you just have to find witch direction.

also cv's could have sub spawns for CV vs CV

I like the idea of subs. It would give the PT Boats something else to fight besides the a/c. I'm sure AH has thought about it.
The CV commanders would have to watch out for subs as well.

Adding Depth charges to a PT Boat would be a hoot.  :D

As far as Merchant Marine Ships and Convoys.....they could probably spawn and follow the general routes of the CV's.
If the ships were manned like the current CV model, their routes could be changed depending on where enemy forces were at
any given time.

The delivery of supplies to various ports could have an impact on how fast fields regenerate and how the map is captured by one side.

On the downside it would be very expensive to implement in the current arenas. An underwater terrain would have to be created and placed
in each terrain with water. The physics and damage model for a sub would not be easy. Subs would have to use sonar to navigate through
underwater mountains and valleys. Crush depths for subs would be very shallow.

Would Subs change AH?

The subs will give use to the PBY.  :D
At the surface a sub can use its AA and deck gun. Within periscope depth I believe was their torpedo range. How about oil tankers following CVs?
