a classic war tune's vox.
« on: June 12, 2011, 06:08:56 AM »
i havent brought this up in a couple months, thought i'd reawaken it.

I'd like to have a Vox channel to tune to, that would play classic ww2 war tunes. maybe even throw in some news reels from the war, to listen to in my plane as i fly, or on those long bomb runs.

i know we can allways go to youtube/another place to get this music, but that involves having to put the game down to do so, and if some peoples computers are like mine, after i do that for so many times my game disconnects.

i think being able to listen to said music in game would help set the atmosphere and give your flight a certain nostalgic ww2-era realism feel.

I don't think the VOX channel is the best place for an application like this.   The server has enough load without have to stream music also.

But I like the idea, and my take was to have a table radio in the Officer's Club with a clickable on/off switch that would play .mp3 files of WWII broadcasts and music.  Players could make their own files and share.   I think it'd really add to the ambiance when you're sitting in a scenario waiting for things to get rolling.

+1  Just because coming up with this idea was really thinking outside the box. Very different from the wishes we normally see.

Could have chosen a better metaphor for your criticism.

As a kid use to "stealing" music off the internet, maybe you don't know that there are fees to cover copyrights and such on music. So for each song that HTC played on their vox station they would have to pay fees, as well as if they played it more than once. Seeing as the songs average about 2 minutes for that era you would need 30 songs an hour, and over 600 a day. To cover the cost of that I'm sure that the subscription rate would have to go up to cover all of those fees. Personally I'd rather not pay any more just so you can listen to music.

who is this "kid" you claim is "Stealing" music off the internet fugitive? ive never once stolen music, ever. ive payed for cd's with my own hard earned money, every itunes on my computer is payed for.
do not steriotype me out of your own blind ignorance.

p.s, i knew of the fees, but i thought that after a certain time had passed(or the artist of said song had been dead for awhile) the song would become free to play without having to pay fees for, my apologies for not knowing this, but does it make me a brindless dult for not knowing this? no. it just means i dont know everything there is to know about in the world.

Well being in my 50's most of the people here are "kids", and you can't tell me in this day and age you have NEVER downloaded any music, video, game illegally. The only person who hasn't, hasn't connected to the internet. Don't take everything so personal.

As for the fees, believe it or not MOST of the money goes to the record/music companies, and as they never die, neither do the fees.

If you truly like the music, try this:

Not quite sure how to play it while flying though. But a great sampling of period music  :salute

No need for a vox feature. Simply create a playlist on itunes and go with it. My computer never took a hit from running itunes and Aces High at the same time. Note there are some free options out there, too. Pandora being one of them.
