FiFi---Last flying B29
« on: June 12, 2011, 07:56:07 AM »
Fifi is the only flying B-29 Strato Fortress in the world and just got some new engines. This is one of the combat airplanes that flew from Iwo Jima, Saipan, Tinian islands to bomb Japan and help win the war.

Checked it out Bails...those are awesome!  I'd love to hear that bird's engines in person while taking off.  I wish she'd come into CT when the 17's make their annual appearence.

There was an Airshow not too long ago here in SA TX.  I was working then but what I got to saw, awesome.  Was heading into town when I spotted a B-17 and B-25.  "Awesome!  Wonder if FiFi is here too...".  Just as I said that, I looked to my right and saw her coming.  Flew right over me at about 1500 ft.  Awesome sight when she appeared on my left side and banked right. :x :x :x  Wanted to keep watching them but, not generally a good idea while driving on the highway. :lol

lol yup, last year i was heading to Wings over pittsburgh with a stop at my sisters house prior to pick up my brother-in-law and just as i was coming to their exit, the F-22 which i had seen in the distance fly towards their house, circled over and from behind a low hill and crossed the highway i was on about 100ft above me with full afterburners lit. I had the moon roof and the windows open and man, what a sound that was... almost created my own exit too.

I met FiFi at Teterborough Airport here in NJ...5 or 6 years ago? My memory fails me.
She just stopped there for a night while in transit.
No huge crowds, just airplane freaks and a big beautiful plane.
Just drove into the parking lot and walked out onto the ramp.

Wish I could have been there for the takeoff the next day but I had to work.
