ATI Tray Tools
« on: June 12, 2011, 03:42:42 PM »
My Catalyst Control Center has been acting up.  I have spent countless hours trying to get it to work uninstalling and downloading new and old versions.  I am done.  Does anyone have any know how about Tray Tools.  I have seen some websites to download it but they don't really seem legit where is the actual website that the creator made?

The programmer is actually a Ruskie and has his "official" site on 3DGuru.com.

ATI Tray Tools at 3DGuru.com.

Before you install it, make sure that you've disabled Catalyst Control Center.  You don't have to uninstall it (it might create some additional, non-needed headaches if you try), just make sure that in your startup programs that you've disabled CCC from starting at boot up.  Now that you've disabled CCC from starting up at boot up, make sure that you've also got it closed (right click on the CCC icon in your SysTray and select Exit).  Now install ATI Tray Tools and follow the onscreen instructions to install it.

After you've installed it, there are something you may want to disable in ATI Tray Tools, namely the onscreen display (it shows your FPS in the corner of your screen).  Right click on the ATI Tray Tools icon on the SysTray and select Tools & Options, then select Onscreen Display.  Next, in the General Settings, uncheck Enable OnScreen Display.

If you have specific questions on how to use ATI Tray Tools, I can try and help you out some more.

Does it support eyefinity and custom desktop setups with multiple monitors? I recall using it way back before eyefinity and I recall all the other options, but how about with recent developments?

been trying to install it... no go.  It's screaming about drivers.  Apparently it's a known Win7 issue....

It's less of a resource hog than CCC is and pretty much what you can do in CCC you can do in Tray Tools.  It basically gives you more control over your video card settings than CCC allows.

Does it support eyefinity and custom desktop setups with multiple monitors? I recall using it way back before eyefinity and I recall all the other options, but how about with recent developments?

I believe it does but I don't use a multiple monitor setup so I've never really checked to see how well ATI Tray Tool supports multiple monitors.  The beta version of ATI Tray Tools may have support for multiple monitors while the stable release version doesn't.

Nope, Skuzzy hasn't said anything of the kind.  He's like me in that he also recommends not using CCC (either uninstalling it or disabling it from starting at boot up) and using ATI Tray Tools instead.

I use ATI Tray Tools V. 1.7.9.1531 (which I believe is the newest Beta Version) and ATI Driver V. 8.791 (which I believe is the 10.11 version of drivers).

I see they are up to 11.5 for AMD... Might be worth trying out.  I go through AMD's website and select "custom downloads" and select "Driver ONLY".  I do have a few strange anomalies maybe the updated driver will fix it.

This is using an ATI 5830 card with a single display.

As of June 15th 2011,  ATI  Display drivers and ATI CCC just went to version 11.6

AMD Radeon™ Video Card Drivers for Windows 7 & Windows Vista  64 bit - OS

Individual Downloads Link:

http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/radeon_win7-64.aspx#2

NOTE: these are ATI Reference Video Drivers, they will work but it is recommended to go to your ATI Video Cards Brand/Manufacturer's Website to download New Drivers that might work better for your particular branded Video Card

Note: the above link is for Windows 7 64 Bit  or  Vista 64 bit  Operating Systems only

Link to AMD/ATI downloads page ( click this if you are using a different OS )

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
as to ATI Catalyst Control Center ( aka  CCC  )  & ATI Tray Tools....

I was always under the impression that HTC / Skuzzy recommended installing the Video Driver only for your Video Card, and using Aces High's built in Graphics & Advanced Graphics Settings abilitys, instead of using CCC or Tray Tools

hope this helps

I updated to ATI 11.6 and when I did I did not install CCC, I went with ATI Tray Tools.

Doesn't look like it has the monitor setup or eyefinity setup. No big deal for the moment, as I'm not gaming on 3 monitors (yet). If I need to I can always go back to CCC when I next upgrade.

Maybe it's hidden and I'm just not sure where to look for it, but I didn't see it.

It may be in the latest beta version while not in the current "stable release".

Oooooh... I thought I read something about that, too. Oh well I'll stick it out. Not vital right now, until I get better monitors to use in gaming.
