More variety in airfields
« on: June 12, 2011, 07:37:19 PM »
Currently all the airfields are the same.  All small fields are alike. All medium fields, etc.
I would like to see some variety. For instance, some single runway dirt strips with only fighters available in the forward areas. Further back longer runways with twin engine bombers and fighters only.
The code for these fields already exists. I've used them in working on my own terrains.
Oh well, just a thought.

I agree %100.  There are multiple custom airfields on maps we use in scenarios that would be great to have in the MA.  What is wrong with the small airfields with 1 hanger each for the FH, BH, and VH?  Reduce the barracks, ords, fuel, etc.  Make them similar to the hastily built airfield in the PTO or even the Ost Front in the ETO.  LOTS of options.

badhorse aren't those custom objects? there is at least one reason custom objects aren't allowed on the terrains in the main arenas...guess

Dirt fields or fields with PSP support fighters , fighter bombers and maby goons. Soon after the DDAY landings the dozers started cutting FB fields layed PSP errected crude living and repair areas. Give it some thought would add something new IMHO.

And a good one at that, BadHorse.  I'm tired of looking at the same field types month after
month; and that goes for the cookie-cutter towns as well.

I'm definitely +1 on this - having multiple types of each field (S, M and L).  The airfields in the Karelia map would definitely be a good addition.
I also like the idea of limiting 4-engine bombers to M and L fields only.  Definitely more realistic that way.

fields more towards the front should be the more "dirt" fields, not fully developed.towards the back you might have concrete runways and what not.but think about the squad maps where squads have the field map with numbered hangars.would this move them into a different placement on the airfield?

i think it would be a good idea to also impliment(if not already done)that the plane picks up speed faster on concrete then it does on the dirt.therefore the airplane would have a longer time picking up speed to takeoff(would effect every plane especialy heavy jabos and bombers.)

great idea

Where is the "front"?
That is the crux of the problem with the idea, I think.
I too would like to see more variety in towns and airfields; big cities near large fields, small towns/hamlets near small fields.

would be cool if more of the forward airfields were grass or dirt strips, with only fighters, attack, and light bombers enabled...

similar to the airfields in the WW1 arena, but with 2 re-arm pads on each end.

How you definiate forward airfields? The ones near the front lines just after a reset? And what if they are captured?
Anyway, good idea, the B17s werent operated from the frontline bases in the WW2, and for good reason. Bombers under 10K are easy kills.
In the other hand, this feature would require an enormous load of work from the terrain staff. Its all up on them.
