Need some advice on a camcorder for multiple purposes
« on: June 14, 2011, 01:24:22 AM »
Well im looking into getting a camcorder to record my flights and flights to air shows in our aircraft and for when i go spotting, however im not sure of a good camera. I looked at walmart and there was one that i thought i liked that was around 300 dollars, but im not sure about any camera so im hoping to get some input.

Im basing my decision on three things. Price, i need it to be as close as possible to 200-400 dollars. Second, sound. Im going to be filming in and outside of our C-123k that has two R2800's. Its VERY loud so i need it to be able to pick up the sounds without loosing the quality. My current point and shoot sony in video mode just doesnt do it any justice. It turns the soothing roar of the engines into a high pitch whine. :( Third is video quality. cant be crappy.

So any ideas?

Now im also toying with possibly getting RC cameras and putting them on the outside of the plane. I have found two that i like, but im not sure if they will hold up.

This is my preferred of the two

and this might be the one that holds up better of the two.

now i did just find this as i was typing... its cheap enough that i might be able to just try them but it lacks in video quality...

now our cruise speed is ~140kts, but im not sure they will hold up to that. Also, im not sure how i could mount them without drilling holes for straps, which i wont be doing.

So any ideas there?

i just remembered that i might be able to put the camera in the gear well behind a small glass window in the nose that used to house the glideslope indicator.

GoPro is the only camera for that environment.

PM me on the details.Had it on my planes the last 700 hours, and I fly in everything.
