small delay for GV repairs
« on: June 19, 2011, 07:11:04 AM »
my wish:

when you click on "Load Supplies", there should be a delay while your vehicle is repaired and rearmed, in the same way as rearming a plane on the rearm pad. it shouldnt be instant, 20s maybe?

why?

I have no problem with the idea of repairing GVs with supplies, but the instant repair is very gamey.

an example from yesterday - I drive to an enemy base in a Firefly, spot a tiger moving the opposite way off my 2 oclock at 1000yd. he must have spotted me at the same time as we both slew round to stop facing each other at 800yd. I juuuust manage to get my first round off as his turret lines up on me and hit the mantle disabling his turret before he can fire. yay! now I just have to wait a second for my loader to chamber another AP round and I can finish him off.

however there must be GV supps lying around because before I've even chambered my second round, hes hit the supply button and let off a round which kills me instantly.

the instant nature of the gv supp makes it more like a platform game powerup than the device to enhance gameplay it should be.

I agree with what you are saying. An instant repairs does not justify GV repair.

There are many times that I attacked a GV by dropping a bomb on them, direct hit. Nothing. I later find out that if that person has a lot of GV supplies around him, he used them as fast as he can as the bomb lands on or next to him. How does that justified anything in the game?

I agree.  Take away those mechanic's and armorer's super powers!  A 20 second (or maybe 30 seconds just like the re-arm pad for aircraft) reload/repair delay would do some good!   :)

Agree, even the 30 seconds it takes to reload/rearm a plane is videogame-fast, it's still more realistic than instant.  I'm having a flashback to my old 486 machine playing Rainbow 6 for the first time and thinking it's awesome that it takes a little time to reload a gun for the sake of realism.
If I had a gun with 3 bullets and I was locked in a room with Bin Laden, Hitler, Saddam and Zipp...  I would shoot Zipp 3 times.

+1 - if the planes have to wait 30 seconds, why not the GVs?

Lots. But so far it's all +1 which is a good sign! I vote thumbs up as well. What we have is "gamey" as said. 10-20 seconds seems good enough to me. Naturally there would be some things which need to be worked out. For example, if you click "load supplies" do you have to stay still during this time? What happens if you click "load supplies" and then you start moving? Is the supplies wasted? Or does the supplies not disappear until you actually get the effect from it? And if that is the case, then what happens when two people click "load supplies" during that window? Only one gets it? Food for thought.

yup. Once I had no turret in my wirrble no engine either.  I did have supplies.  So I said wtf.  Engaged neutral rolled down hill towards the panzer that was approching and had caused the damage mentioned above.  So I rolled down hill right through him (another change that needs to happen) stopped behind him, hit supplies and loaded the back of his turret with 20mm and got a kill. I was thrilled, but kinda like, that couldn't really happen!
They call it "common sense", then why is it so uncommon?
