Woah... trippy! Math + Life = ???
« on: June 20, 2011, 04:47:49 PM »
Just watched this and I was like  :O and  :lol. Not that I believe everything he said, but its just funny how you can look at everything from a whole another perspective.

He lost credibility in a couple of previous videos for me but whatever. Interesting view of the world.

To skuzzy: nothing remotely religious in this video.

OK, my head hurts.  Not a math or physics person.  I will stick to plants and animals.

Everything in this universe with a fair amount of squinting and head turning / covering up one eye can be broken down into everything else. Steven Hawking explains it better i believe seems how this guys voice got too anoying to watch the whole thing.  :D

Very interesting. It seems pretty convenient to slap a bunch of shapes together with some magic ratio to create a patchwork of complex designs. What I would like to know, however, is how we could use this knowledge to help us advance into outer space and help preserve our species. Or to prevent future wars, or to find alternate energy sources that no greedy corporation wants to buy its patent and put it away so no one sees it.

Didn't watch the whole thing...yet, but I got an A+ on a Golden Ration project in math class.  :D

Measure the distance between points on your body.. like your nose to your mouth or eyeline to your knees, everything comes close to 1.6.

that works really well if you only choose to measure points on the body that will give a ratio of about 1.6 :aok

Not everything is spot on, sure, but more than half will be close to a ratio of 1.6.

mmm I think you missed my point, but even so close is not close enough. the golden ratio isnt "about 1.6", it is very precisely defined. if the measured ratio isnt exactly phi (within measurement tolerances), its not phi.

edit: my point was that I could pick an infinite number of measurements on a human body which arent even close to phi. if you find a measurement which looks like phi, its because you ignored all the measurements which dont look like phi. it proves nothing.

edit2: try the finger measurements as shown in the video. if anyone can match the proposed ratios to within 1mm I'll eat my hat.
