Points for tonnage sunk.
« on: June 23, 2011, 02:08:06 PM »
We have Bomber damge points.
Why not have tonnage sunk.
If you get a ship destroyed for sinking an opposing CV ship why not allow a tonnage sunk for it?

You get a LOT of points for killing ships, last I recall. It's there, just not in "tonnage" -- it's translated into points.

You sure about that Krusty?  I seem to remember sinking a CV and being suprised at the points. Wasn't worried about though becasue I wasn't expecting much. We're talking damage points right? Not perks.

I've wanted this for ages, but not counted for rank.

It could be quite tricky to coad though. You'd have to track every amount of damage done to each of the ships since the CV spawned and then divide up the tonnage amongst everyone who's damaged it.

I imagine it will be added when we get the Beau and the Tsetse ;)

I sank a cv with mg rounds from my b26.   so who gets the credit the guy before me who killed everything on oi or me who used 200 rounds?

First, I don't think you CAN kill a CV with 50cals. But even so the person that does the last gets it if I recall. Maybe it was a lag issue or a torpedo or some other reason you didn't get credit. You'd need a film to figure out why.

BadHorse, back when they implemented the points in buffer system, I upped Ju88s, flew around forever looking for a CV, couldn't find it, went and bombed 1-2 small bombs on a field (1 for dar, one something small like a bunker) then circled more, found the CV, dropped right on it, and got like 8 Million damage points when I landed later. They truncated the points shown after this, keep in mind, but it was still a surprisingly high amount.

P.S. I don't think guns damage counts. It's damage from bomb blasts only, and only on objects. You CAN damage an object without destroying it and land points. I've done that a few times with strats and such. Seems (to me) that the fire from your bomb touches something and you get points for that.

there was no torpedoes or lighting from above.  what happens is, you cause damage and the damage was so high that a few hundred rounds of mg (which also cause damage)  will sink it.  but will post the video, give me a day or 2.  it's funny as hell as me and my gunner laughed for minutes.

so you'd just have a ton or 2 added to your tonnage sunk for the strafing, rather than the 30,000 you'd get for sinking it all by yourself :)

does the word assist bring back memories  :D.

not against the idea, but it would be cool if more info was added as to how to split the sinking of a ship when 2 or more players bomb it.

I've sunk a CV in an 190A-8 with 30mm wing cannons before, needless to say it was extremely soft from a number of determined ord-laden players before me.  Strafing a CV down is more a move of desperation, especialy considering the lethality of the AAA in the MAs around CVs, and if you're in gun range, so are the ships.

You all do recall the slight fact that the hull on a CV regenerates rather quickly, right?

So what happens when you spend an hour RTB and it regenerates? You get no listed tonnage? You never sank it. You can't get partial credit for damaging a ship since it's still out there killing stuff...

No, I don't like that idea. I WOULD be much more open to a suggestion like a kill message such as "RTHOLMES sank a rook DD" (or CA or CV) even if he doesn't land. Like kill messages of old, that were instant. Only just do this for ships and not normal kills.
