Only half way through the pilot episode, but have noted a lot of the plot holes and technical inconsistencies mentioned above already. So far, the acting and dialog has felt wooden and cliche in turn. Beyond that, nothing about the way the aliens or humans are acting really seems to fit the situation. I found "The Walking Dead" far superior thus far. Unless it gets better quick, I won't likely keep following Falling Skies. Dropping the viewer into the middle of this, with only the child's narration to set the stage, was woefully inadequate, and a cop-out in my book. This was also a problem I had with Walking Dead, but at least there were a few flashbacks where needed to help you understand how the charactors came to be were they are, and what their motivations are.
I did watch Battle: Los Angeles over the weekend, and actually found it quite good in many respects. The aliens and humans seemed to behave in a much more logical and believable way, though I'm not certain trading most of a platoon for four civilians trapped behind enemy lines was realistic. However, the aliens troops and the human troops behaved in combat in nearly identical fashion, showing that some concepts are universal. The action was much more fast-paced, and the story was easy to follow, told as it was from the Marine grunt's viewpoint. Because it was less bold in the viewpoint being presented, it was easier to tell a coherent story. Falling Skies I think is probably trying to do too much, perhaps.
