Some of the thoughtful and most painful decisions I've ever made, concern putting a pet down. I dated a veterinarian for about 7 years, and she would call me late at night, to assist her, when she needed help with euthanasia. I hated it, but never refused helping her. She used me for the heavy lifting of big dogs mostly. I would carry them to the exam table with a lot of care, and they always looked at eye to eye as if they totally trusted me. I handled them like they where my dogs.
She would exam them again, and then decide to call the owners. It amazed how fast they would show up. It was like minutes. I had to leave the area at that point. To much emotion.
I just read Mav's post and it made me remember all this.
He had a tough call.
