Common Tactic Ignored?
« on: July 08, 2011, 07:27:15 PM »
Hey guys...

I'm new here, but have a question..Why isn't the use of runway bombing a viable tactic? It was commonly used in WWII and still is a training tactic in conventional warfare. Sure would appreciate anyones input.

Thx,

Cause these runways do not "brake" anymore.

In the olden days you could cause craters, but no longer.

And get ready to get flamed for saying something that goes against fighting in a game modeled around flying.

Because there would be nothing to stop from one side closing down all the fields of one of the opposing countries by cratering the runways and effectively shutting that country down and causing a large number of players to log off.  It's the same reason why it is no longer possible to pork fuel to 25%.

If you could bomb the runway you would get lots of guys flying around at 35,000ft in b29's doing nothing but bombing the spawn areas. Not allowing anyone to take off from an otherwise un damaged feild.

I remember this happening many times in AW and the reactions over  channel: all country. Wish I had the text buffer for those times.

Thanks guys...alot of wisdom there..I appreciate it! I wonder though if it would induce frontline defenses though? What i mean is...with the exception of formed squadrons you have alot of undisciplined flying like the gentlemen said earlier you'd have guys flying around in B-29's bombing all the runways. I guess this is a debate that could go on and on...so I will end with This is a great game and in the week and a half or so I have been here...it is as close to reality as you can get...and have met some fine individuals.

Thx

Welcome to the war Horseman  :salute

It is a matter of balanced play I think.

What would be more reality based as you suggested may not make the game better.

It is a valid tactic.  :devil  For cheap, yet immensely satisfying kills:

Bombing a runway with the rinky-dink bombs in a G4M1 Betty bagged me a Rainbow XVI and a good laugh.
Sure beats bombing town centers or flattening hangars.  And you are not preventing someone from upping like conventional vulching.
A ton of luck is involved of course, as the uppers you kill don't even spawn in until after your bombs are falling.

And how can man die better, than facing fearful odds.
For the ashes of his fathers and the temples of his Gods."

Playability...... remember back in WWII if you died it was permanent too. That was also adjusted for game playability.
