On a tangent, CombatSim.com has a review of version 1.0 still up:
http://www.combatsim.com/memb123/htm/feb00/aces-high.htmFrom early 2000. The second page has a shot of the Spitfire.
The Spitfire; there was only one at the time, a MkIX. This was back when the game had a 109-G10. But, we learn, "HTC has three new aircraft coming out very soon, the C.202, the Spitfire Mk V, and the P-38L Lightning. The Lancaster will be the next bomber released, and the rumor is that the Typhoon will be the next fighter." I would have chosen a different word to describe the Typhoon; stabber, attacker, torquemeister, walloper. It's not Ali, it's Cooper. An immobile block that throws out punches.
Interestingly, "the Spitfire currently modeled can be fitted with either 4 .303 machineguns and 2 20 mm cannon, or 2 .50 machineguns instead of the 4 .303's", which is sort-of historically accurate if we assume that the former option is supposed to represent a C-wing and the latter an E-wing. Aces High II doesn't have that kind of functionality nowadays; it would be interesting to have an option to customise the Spitfire's wing, really go to town, stick a clipped wing on the V for example.
Or e.g. have a quad-20mm clipped wing Griffon-powered Spitfire. Then people might be tempted to fly the Spitfire more often, instead of leaving it in the hangar (cough).
