Lyric1 found me some information on this C Hog scheme. This aircraft was flown by Lt Col William A Millington, CO of VMF-124. This squadron was embarked with VMF-213 on the USS Essex and were the first Marine squadrons to operate from a carrier. They took part in numerous raids on the Philippines and Japan during the spring of 1945.

nice, but the lighter blue (whether 1-2-3 toned) hogs always look better imho...

doubt the navy was using the lighter blues by the time the C-Hog came around.

Only 1 three tone C-hog was painted in that manner & this is it.

 

I could not find what unit this was shipped to. So it is very hard to convince people to accept it as an operational aircraft even though it has shipping numbers painted on it.

I even tried to get it set as a default skin.

Thanks for the kind words guys.

I did the default skins for the F4U-1, 1A and 4, Waffle did the 1C and 1D.

I'm going to skin another C Hog and also a F4U-4 in the all-over dark blue scheme. I am also doing an F4U-1 in the early light blue and grey scheme. The three colour scheme is pretty much restricted to the F4U-1A, it arrived around the time the A did and was superceded at about the same time as the D replaced the A. The A slots are getting close to full but I'll have a think about doing another one in the three colour scheme as well.

After that Lyric's found me an F4F to do and then, time permitting, I'll look at doing a few A6Ms.

That looks great Greebo. They, along with the 213 were part of air group 4. you are going to make a VMF-213 F4u1 skin, but can you make an F4u1a skin or 213? I cant find any images for it, but i know they flew them. I have found plane and pilot rosters that show it. If you need them I can post the link so you can see it.

I have to have ideally a photo or at least some sort of painting of the aircraft in question, with some history to back it up. Otherwise it would not be accepted by HTC. I'll have a look through my books and see if I have anything on a VMF-213 F4U-1A.
