I can honestly say that I'm not surprised.

Same goes for one individual and mobile maintenance shops.  If the aircraft is on a certificate you're not touching it without being on a drug program.  Single pilot/single airplane 135 operator?  Yep, drug program.

He can probably sue himself and win a judgement equal to his earnings for the next 50 years, arrange a payment plan at a payoff rate below the taxable income threshold, claim the judgement as a business expense for tax purposes, and operate his business tax free for half a century.

A smart lawyer could make that a hell of a tax shelter :)
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

You think that's a problem, well I'm Chief Pilot so I have to produce training records for all our pilots for our Feds. Slight problem. I am the pilot, just me no one else. So I need to sign myself off after flying with myself. If I was to fail myself. I would have to ground myself for further training with myself. But you know, I'm a tough taskmaster. So quite frankly I might fire myself for failing to meet my high standards.
It's tough at the top, let me tell you.

LOL it's refreshing to see that our Transport Canada Inspectors are the same.

I have been through the same type of scenarios, both with operations and maintenance up here.

I don't think they hire them for their smarts, more for their ability to blindly follow a procedure.

cheers,
