New Yak 9
« on: July 16, 2011, 10:24:01 AM »
I think we should add another soviet plane to our hanger like a new Version of a Yak 9! Here is a little info on the Yak 9L:

Fighter-bomber version of Yak-9D (factory designation Yak-9L) with four vertical tube bomb bays aft of the cockpit with capacity for up to 4 ? 100 kg (220 lb) FAB-100 bombs or 4 PTAB cassettes with 32 ? 1.5 kg (3.3 lb) bomblets each, although normally only 200 kg (440 lb) of weapons were carried in the front bomb bays.

Tha ought to be good for bombing M3's and M8's.  Beyond that......

IL2 should be the first to get PTAB's IMO. With these they decimated enemy tank formations at Kursk.

I thought the Yak bomber was the Yak 9B? (away from ref. Books at the moment)

Was enemy  mine fields that caused most of the problems at kursk, but point taken.

Was enemy  mine fields that caused most of the problems at kursk, but point taken.

Describing the defences that presented themselves to the German Offensive at Kursk-

"Zhukov first packed the salient with 2 entire Red Army Fronts (Armies), then he constructed field defences. By late June, these crisscrossed the whole salient. Each system had a triple trench line with babred wire and mines front to rear. Countless mines were laid along the perimeter- seven for every 2m (7ft) of front."

But Point taken...ILs had huge impact in the Battle of Kursk, but it also states that "Two-thirds of German tanks destroyed in the battle were the victims of mines. Others fell prey to the Red Army's superb 76.2mm (3in) anti-tank gun."

Guess what Im sayin is that id like to see the Yak-3 before any other model Yak  :x :salute
