Is it a his/her? There always seems to be some gender ambiguity when we speak of Silat - and he'she lives in Oregon, where mayors are also sometimes gender-ambiguous.
Now, this is not to say there's anything wrong with that. I think it's just useful to get the expectations right. I mean, if you're in Bangkok and that hot date is taller than 5'4", you might be expecting an automatic but getting a stick and that can lead to diminished customer sat. That's why it's good to inform before you perform.
