I never really thought about this, I don't normally name objects even if I really like them. I know people often name planes but for some reason I never done it, I usually just call it a Diamond when I fly (which is it's actual name). I guess this is because I think of planes (and cars) as more of an extension of my body than a machine or a friend.

flew Spitfires, Hurricanes, P-51s, P-47s, and F-4s

Best ever name for a WW2 combat bird was found on a 506th FG Mustang based on Iwo Jima.  It so catches what these birds do to us.  I haven't come up with a nicer more appropriate name for a WW2 fighter yet.  Cactus skinned this one for is in game too.

Nice...

Can you regale us with any stories related to The Echantress?

Seeing that photograph, it pains me to think that the pilot's story is lost...

The pilot who named the Enchantress was lost in another 51 during a storm on June 1, 1945 that was the worst mission for the Iwo 51s.  20+ Mustangs were lost in bad weather.  The Enchantress was not flying that day.  The guy on the wing is the squadron doctor.  He'd sent photos home of the plane to his wife.

Sad, but good to connect the pic with a tiny bit of the story.   :frown:

Wonder what the image was of, between the Dr. and the exhaust?  (the circle with the paint missing)

It's the 457th Fighter Squadron emblem.  Just worn off from the exhaust and weather.
