Two different sims,

AH is the best, and possibly the last, of fantasy arena combat sims. They are great for a quick fix, grab a plane and furball city. Ez icons and radar to get to the fight quickly. Capture the flag strategy, etc.

WWIIOL is the 1st multi-service, axis vs allies, complete world at war. This means innovations in icons and radar models. Day and night missions. Weather and wind to effect missions. True supply lines to cut. Research and development of vehicles and weapons. Period weapons and vehicles using a 1940-1945 timeline. Player careers, allowing you to lead a squad or an entire army.

Many lust for this more complete approach. On the other hand, some will always want a quick arena sortie for fun. I wish em all the best.

Kirin, I would have to disagree with you, WW2 flying was not just about dog fights, it was about Dog fites, Bombing, Fighter bombers taking out Trains, vehicles etc. as a matter of fact, the number of sorties done by fighter bombers were double the number of all bomber mission is WW2 (yes, I know, more availability of fighter bombers, but still a fact)

I think you can still keep the fighter jocks happy with implementation of vehicles.  Just because  the vehicles  are there doesn't mean you have to drive them

Look at the "description" at the front page of this site:

planes, vehicles and ships will be implemented

Fact is once they are implemented there will be a 10x increase in the number of accounts/players. Alot (and I mean alot) of people are bored with flying sims.. or at least bored with the concept of flying-shooting down plane-getting killed-flying again without any "reason" other than an increasing score, which btw means nothing to the overall strategy of the game.

I've been flying CK/WB and sometimes AH now for about 4 years.. even a flight sim fanatic like myself needs something "new".

You can give your old car a new paint job, heck even change the tires, but its still the same car.

Pyro!  How did you get that!?!  Do you have access to the vault of drawings I have here from the Defense Department?!?  JSF is on the horizon, now you just gave away our top secret project that was supposed to be a combined forces plane! (Laundry was the Navy's ideas ;p)

If WWII online delivers what it promises and has a flight model comparable to ah, then ah could definately be in trouble as far as I can tell.  The immersion of wwii Online would be the deciding factor.  Imagine, actually flying for the war effort and not just to pad your score.  Ground attack missions that actually mean something, have a lasting effect on the outcome rather than knock out the ack fer a few minutes so we can vulch or capture a base that some dweeb will take back at 12 noon when no one else is on anyway.  Flying around to blow pieces off the other guys plane is cool (still wanna see bigger planes  ), but it just doesnt compare to actually contributing to a team effort. Even once ah gets different terrain, and maybe some vehicles and trains to blow up, it'll be cool at first but blowing stuff up with no lasting effects gets old.
I dont know, maybe I've been playing these things too long.  The flight models get better (and a damn good job ht has done here and I'm appreciative of it) but the substance never changes......fly around and see how many kills you can get and maybe get into some really good fights in the process.  It's definately time for more in my book, I just hope wwii online can deliver what they promise including a top notch flight model comprable to AH's. If not I'd like to see HT deliver something strategically comprable to wwii onlines' plan. Either way, the simm that can deliver the whole package gets my credit card number, and if wwii online cant deliver the flight package that ah does, then I'll probably play both. But either way, I think it's the direction that the simm community needs to go in if it wants to maintain it's customer base.

As we say in the legal world, the issue is not yet ripe.

No evidence...no game...not worth comparing at this time.

Sit tight, we all shall see.  I have a feeling that all of the online flight sims will increase the strat factor in one way or another--it will be up to the players to decide what flavor they like (AI tanks, player-controlled? AI ships, player-controlled, etc...)

My one concern about the WW2OL concept (and I guess about any game mixing in human-only ground/sea elements) is that...no one will climb in and drive the tanks, and man the ships.  In AW, you could get into a T-34 and drive to an NME field--and shoot it up--if you made it.  But who really ever spent the time to try that?

People simply like to fly the planes, dogfight, and have interesting things to blow up on the ground.  I think we would all like to shoot up tanks trying to attack one of our cities or bases, or truck convoys, or fuel dumps.  I really think simply having the server control these events will be the best method.  Or let those who want to drive the tanks and ships, and have the others be AI-controlled to get the numbers you need to make it interesting.

Really--who is going to drive that tank for any length of time?  It is hard enough to get a decent number of buffers up at one time.

<S> and interesting thread as far as we can go with it.

My older brother is a tank sim junky,  I am an aircraft junky.  On the WWIIOL Site there are a considerable number of ground targets willing to volunteer.

If they get it working, the problem will be to find space for all the different junkies.

There are several FPS Games, Covered by infantry in WWIIOL.

Flight sims, well, thats us Junkies.

Tanks, Armor Junkies like my brother, who don't really have a Online environment.

I would do the ocassional Sub tour also.

How many Manyly Blue Plane flyers want to point the Postage Stamp into the wind.

I am first and formost a Flight Sim Junky.  I don't see WWIIOL keeping my from AH, or WB 3.0 if it ever comes out.

Lets wish em all luck and support them, ultimately it is to our advantage to have them competing against each other.
