Wow, this thread blossomed overnight. Perhaps the Bananas will be ripe enough to eat tomorrow  :D

As the owner of 3 AKMs & 11 SKS rifles, I guess you can say I am biased. But I will add one thing. I have seen this thread on several different message boards and normally you can spot those who have no clue what they are talking about. That has been accomplished here.
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

On a side note, which should I buy next a Mosin-nagant M44 or M1. Both are well under retail value.

Buy the M1 first for sure!  Inexpensive Nagants are pretty easy to come by, but cheap M1s are definitely not.

This all started with a simple post calling the AK overrated, everyone even gave him a fair chance at defending that statement, he could not, and here we are.
When i made the statement, i was merely giving my opinion. i didn't know my opinion would upset the bbs gods as badly as it has.

Ive given my reasons why i dislike it. if those reasons arent good enough for you jay hawk then oh well, that's your problem.

I got to shoot Serenitys AK and it was awesome. There were a couple things I didnt care for, but it was reasonably accurate, went bang everytime, and thats all that matters.

Hell, a couple of times it went bang when we WEREN'T trying to! lol

My $.02 on the AR vs AK, they are two VERY different rifles. Your high-grade AR-15 is VERY accurate, generally ergonomic, and a real shooter's rifle. It has tight tolerances to create this accuracy which also make it picky. Most AR-15s have certain ammo types they like and certain ones that will jam them up. A lot cannot handle steal casings rather than brass. They need to be properly maintained to shoot reliably, and excessive dirt and much greatly increase the risk of catastrophic failure. Your AK has very loose tolerances. It's not terribly accurate, and minute-of-man generally out at 100 yards. It's not built for long-range engagements of precision accuracy. Full-auto is rather silly as the 7.62x39 rounds without any type of buffer will guarantee only the first round has any chance of hitting it's target. It's a cheap rifle. However, I have yet to find a single round that doesn't feel flawlessly. I've only had a handful of FTFs, and that was the first few rounds out of the gun while she was still teething. I know no matter what happens to my WASR-10, when I pick her up and insert a magazine, she will always chamber, and every trigger pull will put a round down range, no matter what brand of ammo I use or where I get it. If I'm shooting at a match and want the best shots possible, or a sniper in the field, where i only have one bullet to make all the difference, I would take an AR-15 every time. But for personal defense, or any combat situation, I would prefer an AK. In the field, especially in a SHTF situation as a civilian where you lack all of the supply lines the military has, you don't know how often you'll be able to clean your weapon, if you'll be able to find lubricants, solvents, etc. There's a good chance you'll just shoot a weapon until it fails. I know an AR will probably fail before the AK. It's not a guarantee, but it's more likely.

ya can't really lose respect for them doing something like that.

they're paid to do a job. if you ask them to do "xyz", it's not their job to tell you it's wrong, or sacrilege......it's their job to do what you ask them to do, and what they're willing to pay you to do.

that being said....i saw the flamethrower one, and the one with the wounded warrior, whom they built a shotgun equipped atv.....designed to be operated with one hand. they took nothing for either of them. a big <<S>> to those guys at red jacket.

It's fine to not like the gun, in fact there have been a couple of us in this thread (myself included), who have stated that we don't care for the AK.  But to say it is the most "overrated gun ever created," as if your single "testing" experience can discredit the field tested and proven worth of the rifle over the last 60 years, is asinine.  We didn't jump on you because you don't like the AK, we jumped on you because you aren't able to admit that just because you don't like it, that doesn't mean it's a bad rifle.

Not saying they aren't good guys or anything, but I am certain that that entire "job" was arranged by the producers of the TV show.  I am sure they made plenty of money repairing the flame thrower for the gentleman, even if it didn't come out of his pocket directly.

Personally, the few episodes that I have seen have had them building stupid crap like the M1919 motorcycle or the triple mounted M16/AR15s.  I wanted to like the show, because I really enjoy firearms, but it's just another crappy psuedo reality show further infecting the television world.

Just my opinion.
