Reading up on the Laguna Seca makes me wonder how much they gonna ask for one because it sounds like performance will be pretty good.
Almost in Z06 territory, definitely in Grand Sport Vette area.. and a GS from Kerbeck is ~50k depending on options.

Just read the article linked above about the Leguna Seca. I've been wondering how they claim such dramatically improved performance (such as the cornering figures) out of a car that is not significantly lighter and has only (!) 440 hp.

Ah ha. I comes from the factory with R-rated tires.

Those ought to be good for about 2000-3000 highway miles before they're worn to the belts.  :lol

Wonder what kind of claims Corvette could make if they delivered Grand Sports and Z06s from the factory with race tires instead of street tires.  :lol

Better off waiting for the camaro ZL1 coming out in early 2012 with the 6.2L motor  :x sure it would leave that pony car in the dust  :rock

camaros already have 6.2 liters. they don't leave mustangs in the dust.

the zl1 will be trying to compete with the shelbys, and boss's, not the gt's.

The ZL1 Camaro isn't an answer to the Mustang GT.  It's something to throw against the Shelby GT500s and Boss 302s.

The SS Camaro can't do with 6.2L (it already has this size motor) what the Mustang GT does with 5.0.  When you're putting a blower on them its even less fair.  Plus the Mustang is actually fun to drive whereas changing lanes on the freeway in the Camaro you just sort of hope nobody's in your blind spot.  I wasn't a fan of my week driving the 2SS Camaro Coupe.  The convertibles aren't much better but they did do away with the B Pillar and it's nearly blacked out window.

The first "reprogrammable" ford computer was the EEC-V computer of 1994.

GM was flash programmable in 1990 for the geo storm and 1993 is where the rest of the product line started receiving flash programmable computers.

Earlier ford computers (eec-IV) had a port that people used to piggyback devices that carried alternate tunes.

This is not reprogramming......what you are doing is running a program that is contained on a device that interfaces the ecu through said port and bypassing the internal program contained on the ECU's prom.

Ford was not the only manufacturer who had a "port" that could run a tune from an external source but they were one of the few who had an external connector accessible after removing either a metal plate or a plastic plug.

As an ECU builder, I reprogrammed EEC-IV computers the same way I reprogram ones for a 1975 datsun 280z..........I burned a new prom chip on our prom burner and soldered it to the board after removing the original.

you mean isuzu, right?

yes, i know we were "piggybacking" the eec4 computers. sometimes. the better systems didn't connect to the service port, but rather connected to the 60 pin connector, then the eec4 harness connected to that, then we adjusted the fuel, spark, timing, and pretty much whatever else it allowed us to adjust.
in 1990, gm computers still used prom chips. the geo storm was not a product of gm, nor was the geo prism.

The car comes equipped with a collision warning system and brakes for you. Well built vehicles any way you look at it.

You'll be thinking twice I suspect next time you pull up next to one. Would be very embarassing to get smoked by a estate sedan in a mustang.. :bolt:

the only reason i don't like those systems(as i actually think they're pretty dam amazing) is because of human nature. when i feel too tired to drive.....i don't. i would suspect you do the same. i tend to pay attention to traffic around me, especially at intersections. i presume you do the same.
yet, that commercial which i quoted the first few lines from, is telling mercedes owners that "hey!! are you too tired to drive to the night club tonight? don't worry about it! your mercedes will pay attention for you!"

human nature is to push things. everyone does it somewhere/somehow. all of those safety systems in a car will have those owners driving when they're in no condition to drive.

and for thinking twice when i pull up next to one?  :rofl :rofl

i NEVER think twice about a stoplight challenge, unless there's a cop around. it doesn't matter what i'm driving, nor does it matter what's next to me. the fun is in the challenge. i've even raced my wrangler(with a 2.5 liter 5 speed).  :aok

The 1990 geo storm used flash programmable delco computers.

Again....you are arguing with someone who ran Blue Streak's ecu division and knows automotive computers far beyond the understanding of most technicians..............beca use that is my specialty.

The ecus right in front of my car in our 40,000 sq. ft. ECU warehouse are a/c delco computers used on isuzu, suzuki, geo, and saturn cars.

Not all the geo/suzuki/isuzu used the Delco ecus as early as the storm but they eventually migrated away from mitsubishi produced ecus.

The point is that GM beat ford to reprogrammable ecus by 4 years and the statement quoted below is incorrect.

as for programmable computers......fords have had that since the mid/late 80's. mustangs in particular, have been getting reprogrammed since then.

the point is that when i have replaced computers in isuzus, they have never been delco units. gm's were using proms right up(i think) to the advent of the obd2 system. they started phasing in these computer systems around 94, as many manufacturers did, with complete compliance by 96.

now, go hijack someone elses thread.  :aok

You are incorrect and speaking from an experience perspective that is lacking in comparison to mine.

You made statements that were incorrect.

It's that simple.

so, those non-gm computers i took out of storms were indeed gm computers?

back on track.....i was just looking at the option list of the car i drove. it doesn't have the 3.73 diff in it. it;'s got the standard diff. and it was still impressive. that;s another bargaining point for me to beat em down though, as i do really want a 3.73, and do not want to install it myself.

I'm pretty sure when he buys his mustang he'll remove air bags, abs, seat belts, and install front drum brakes. Because  if you super awesome driver as he is  crap just doesn't happen to you:)
