LOL CAP I just bought a ford but there is only one difference...mine looks like this

She runs great and for the big interceptor engine in it it gets great gas mileage. I took her to NH from PA and averaged 31 MPG which i found to be great. The worst part bout the darned car is, everyone slows down when I get behind them. (it still has the pushbar on the front of it)

Sounds like a blast CAP :)
They are definitely not the pony cars we grew up with :)

Reading up on the Laguna Seca makes me wonder how much they gonna ask for one because it sounds like performance will be pretty good.
Almost in Z06 territory, definitely in Grand Sport Vette area.. and a GS from Kerbeck is ~50k depending on options.

Had a neighbor comment on the Vette, asked me if it had much power
.. I told him if I had owned a car like this when I was younger I would have been in Jail.
Massively deceptive about how fast yer goin, it just doesn't 'feel' like 75 .. or 135 for that matter, and it gets there quick.

you're right on that.

the boss302LS is supposed to go for about 47k. the one at the ford dealer down the street from my shop has one for just under 48k.

CAP,

Before you buy that stang, find a used pontiac G8 to test drive.  The GT is auto only, but the GTX is manual.  Don't need to really be serious, but just give it a shot.  You should be able to find an awesome deal on those things and if you get a used one in good condition, you'll be past the period where a handful of owners had to wait for parts to arrive from Australia.

I love my G8 GT, and both the engine and transmission modules are fully programmable so you can tune them to your hearts delight to get the shift points just right, and gain a few mpg back in addition to the 20 *true* hp gain from the engine tune.

i appreciate your input, and wish for you pontiac enthusiasts, that pontiac were still around, now that the retro-rods are kicking but. i can only imagine how pontiac would've done a retro firebird, or trans am......or could you imagine a retro catalina?  :devil

the g8, and even the last incarnation of the gto, never did anything for me. they look boring. they sound bad bellybutton though, and i know with the powertrain that gm gave them, they kicked bellybutton too.

as for programmable computers......fords have had that since the mid/late 80's. mustangs in particular, have been getting reprogrammed since then.
since the advent of the OBD2 control systems, everything is programmable. there's already over a dozen tunes for mustangs, and i would imagine camaros too.
like i said.....this latest incarnation of the mustang just looks like sex on wheels. i'd imagine, that ford used a little majic, tossed some 66 fastback, some 68 fastback, a boatload of sexy, and some modern into a SAPP super blender....turned it on its highest setting(which is faster than lint), let it run for a week, and when they poured it out, this new stang is what they got.  :aok

as for programmable computers......fords have had that since the mid/late 80's. mustangs in particular, have been getting reprogrammed since then.

The first "reprogrammable" ford computer was the EEC-V computer of 1994.

GM was flash programmable in 1990 for the geo storm and 1993 is where the rest of the product line started receiving flash programmable computers.

Earlier ford computers (eec-IV) had a port that people used to piggyback devices that carried alternate tunes.

This is not reprogramming......what you are doing is running a program that is contained on a device that interfaces the ecu through said port and bypassing the internal program contained on the ECU's prom.

Ford was not the only manufacturer who had a "port" that could run a tune from an external source but they were one of the few who had an external connector accessible after removing either a metal plate or a plastic plug.

As an ECU builder, I reprogrammed EEC-IV computers the same way I reprogram ones for a 1975 datsun 280z..........I burned a new prom chip on our prom burner and soldered it to the board after removing the original.

The car comes equipped with a collision warning system and brakes for you. Well built vehicles any way you look at it.

You'll be thinking twice I suspect next time you pull up next to one. Would be very embarassing to get smoked by a estate sedan in a mustang.. :bolt:

exactly why i wouldnt drive it. I understand its there as a fail safe God Forbid you shouyld not see someone hitting their brakes one time thing, but it would be to easy to get dependant on it. especially the elderly (no offense), and the young drivers who think theyre cool cause mommy and daddy just bought them a brand spankin new Benz for theyre first car. and what if the computer system fails that runs the fail safe's? you get used to it so you dont pay attention as much as you used to, and the system fails. hit a car in the rear end what are you gonna tell the cop "Well my car didnt stop me, how was i supposed to know the person was hitting theyre brakes?".

sorry for the rant, just opposed to the idea of the car knowing more then the driver, if this is the case the driver should not be driving.

LOL......I have a full size electra estate wagon from the late 80s that someone named "mustang killa".

To it's defense, it has 255 ft. pounds of torque and a torque convertor that puts it immediately into it's power band..........which ends a 4000 rpms.

It shears the driver's engine mount ever 5 years.
Driven properly (keep rpms low and try to stay at lock-up speeds) it will return good mileage, leap across intersections, and haul 4x8 sheets of plywood and engines protected from the elements.
