a quick thanks
« on: July 30, 2011, 07:47:59 PM »

had a new customer came in yesterday. he's in one of the refueling squadrons based on mcguire, but lives right around the corner from my shop.

i always give discounts to anyone in the military, regardless of branch, or their rank or position. it's not much, but it's always what i can afford to discount off any bill.

anyway, this guy comes today to pick up his truck. as he;s signing the invoice, he notices the discount. he points to it, and says "that's too much of a discount.". i told him that in my mind, it wasn't nearly enough, but it was all i could afford to do. he repeated that he thought it was too much.
i told him, that it was thanks to people like him, past and present, that i am able to do many of the things i do, and that people like him, is why i am able to be my own boss.

that got me to thinking about how much you guys in the services really do for the rest of us.

so....thank you all guys....those of you that have served in the past, those of you that're in and serving right now, and those of you that are going into the services.

it may seem geeky....but i don't think you guys hear that enough.

thank you all for doing what you do/did.  :salute

Totally agree Cap...

And it's not 'geeky' it's cool to man up and say 'thanks' in any way that we can.

well, it hit me while i was talking to this guy, that no one ever really takes the time to say those 2 simple words, and mean it. i think most of them work harder on an easy day than most of work on a hard day, and as i mentioned.......even the simplest things would not be possible if not for these guys and gals.

they are the real life superheros, even if they think they're not.

Every time I see a vet or active duty member I shake their hand and thank them.  Seems like no one thanks them enough. I thanked a guy at the bingo hall I work at, he was on Omaha beach....he looked shocked when I thanked him. Almost like no one had ever thanked him before.

There were 2 blackhawk helicopters at fredericksburg airport a couple weeks ago, held the door for the crews and told every single one "Thank you"

When I was in a local nightclub a few months back, (In civies of course) some random girl walks up to me in the middle of the dance floor, and says "Thank you for your service!" I gave her this look of confusion, looked down... no uniform items... I couldn't imagine how she figured it out. I think she sensed this, laughed, and said "It's the haircut!"

I know I'm still 3 years away from the boat (Just tacked on Midshipman 3rd class), but nothing makes me smile quite like the words thank you. I always feel awkward when people say it to me, as I don't know how to respond, and I know I haven't done anything yet, but it also reminds me how many good people are out there. So let me be the one to thank you, CAP, and everyone else like you. It's your support and respect that remind everyone in uniform why they do what they do.

And a big <S> and thank you to all of the service members out there!
