Another Gun Thread!
« on: July 31, 2011, 05:55:01 PM »
Picked up my newest purchase today.

It is a Rock Island Armory M1911 A1 CS 45 caliber pistol.  It is the smaller frame version of the 45, known as an Officer's model.  It has a 3.5inch bull barrel, skeletonized hammer, beaver tail, and a shorter grip then a full sized Government 45.

Here it is next to my full size Rock Island 45.

I've ordered a set of Hogue grips for it, I don't care much for the wood grips.  Hoping to put a couple boxes of ammo through it next weekend, but if it shoots anything like the full size pistol, I'm going to love it!

EDIT:  Just realized that the magazine in the photo isn't the one that came with the pistol.  It is an older mag that I already had for another pistol.  It is a shorter, 6 round mag, designed to fit the Officer sized 45 and fits the new pistol.  The magazine that it came with holds 7 rounds.

Ruger is coming out with a new and intimidating pistol in honor of Senators and Congressmen.
It doesn't work and you can't fire it.
It will be named the “Politician”.

How much did those run ya?  A 1911 has been on my short list for a while, and I've heard decent things about those rock islands.

I paid about $425 for each of them.

If you are looking for a good 1911, it's hard to beat the Rock Islands.  They are well made.  I haven't shot the short one yet, but the full size shoots nice ragged hole groups at 7 yards pretty darn easily.

This was my very first magazine (8 rounds in two groups) from the full size.  Two groups of 4 (cheapest PMC ammo you can buy around here), gun fresh out of the box at 7 yards.

I've been eying these for a bit. Looking for a ccw gun and it seems to fit my budget.

Lemme know how it shoots.

I'll post in this thread after I put some rounds through it next Sunday.  I really expect it to be a pretty good shooter.  I'll let you know.

I was just comparing the new pistol with a pistol that I bought nearly 20 years ago, from a perspective of concealed carry.

The RIA Officer model 45 compared to a Bersa 380 (basically a copy of a Walther PPK)

You can see that the two pistols are similar in size, although the 45 is obviously heavier.  Here is a view of the Bersa laid over the 45 for comparison.  Pretty close in size.  They are similar in thickness also.

But here is the real difference.  Both pistols have a magazine capacity of 7 +1.  But look at the difference in caliber between the two.

Definitely a lot more hitting power in the 45.
