I intend on getting my glider add-on to my private when I get it in september. I got a free glider ride becasue I do alot of wingrunning for the san antonio soaring society. The only glider flight I've been on in Texas..... I got a 3200ft gain in a 20 minute flight. We were up at 7200'.

Of course, when there are 2 Dave White's in a single glider good things are bound to happen.

(They call us double Dave)

Powered gliders often only have an engine strong enough to keep them  up not for take-off per say. And many actually fold up into the fuselage when not in use
acutally, most powered gliders can take off all on their own. However, there are some that only have an engine that is powerful enough to allow them to climb out slowly or stay level.

I believe what is based on my field is a Schleicher ASH-26 or an ASH-25Mi. It was really wide, so im thinking it might have been the ASH-25mi.

I was looking at powered gliders in search to see if i could identify what is on our field and this seemed to be a pretty good article even though it was from wiki.

Thats a Pipistrel Virus, our airports new motorglider for rent. Dave White is flying the Virus, and the other Dave White (Me) is flying the cub. (The plane the picture was taken from)

It's got an 80hp Rotax 912 and cruises at 115 knots. The short wing version is "experimental" and cruises at near 150 knots. (All at 4.8GPH)

I'd imagine after you turned off the motor it would, but with the engine running it probably handles like any LSA

Soaring is the thing. It is so much more interesting than powered flight. Following the flock of birds during migration season is an amazing experience - it is also lazy since the are exceptional at finding the thermal winds :)

I took some lessons, but I do not have the time required to put into it since around where I lived I was required to join the souring club and spend long hours during the weekend operating the strip etc. in addition to actually flying . I did not have that amount of time to dedicate to it. It is definitely on my top list of things to do when the kids grow up a bit.

I've always wanted to fly gliders, sure it lacks the power but they are so cool!

Its definitely awesome to thermal with 2 or three falcons but unfortunately they turn faster then we do even in a 60 degree bank  :airplane:

I think the biggest advantage is the price soaring cost me about $60 bucks per 45 mins of flight
